HALO 3 Trailer

Maybe if Xen was on the Source engine, I could see the atmosphere and art design.

But with what I have now, all I see is a fluff level.
Uh, yeah, but HL1 came out in 1998. Back then Xen looked, sounded, and felt awesome. I don't see the problem with Xen's jump puzzles, the platforms were so huge anyone could blow by them in 1 or 2 tries unless they were missing an arm or something. And I agree, Halo is fun in co-op, but most games are fun in co-op.

The trailer sucked, but then again, I don't like Halo. Still, unimpressive graphics and no gameplay. Meh....

Xen was great because you got to see a completely alien world, one of pure imagination.

Sorry for the off-topic... but pure imagination? We'd seen all the enemies (save smaller headcrabs and a giant testicle-on-legs) before! Once we'd got to grips with the feel of the completely alien world of pure imagination, the gameplay was way, way below-par. You weren't exploring a world with any purpose, it was a series of arbitrary locations devoid of humanity.

And suddenly, Chief is back to using the old AR. :\ Still, I prefered that to the BR anyway.

Looks nice, deffo going to following this like I did with Halo 2.

Well there's a cracker. Humanity? It was an alien border world. Lacked purpose? The first area was a natural teleporter, the next few were simply areas where xenian wildlife thrived and then ultimately you had the grunt factory.

I don't even consider Xen a gameplay segment. It was more like the beginning, where you just went around looking at stuff. Jump puzzles, aren't really gameplay, they're hardly even obstacles. They were so easy. All you had to do is a longjump then there was a little fighting that was just as good as it had been for the rest of the game. And of course the world was devoid of humanity, it was another dimension, that's the point. You did have a purpose too, to find Nihilanth like the scientist tells you to.

The Library was horrible but I think Assault the Control Room and Two Betrails more than make up for it.
Halo 1 has goods bits and bad bits, Halo 2 is almost all 'meh'.

Yeah, Halo 2 had some really cool parts, the outdoor parts. But it wasn't just the library that sucked, the pink and purple Covenant ship sucked, and the indoor areas of that snow place sucked.

My point being that the reason HL was so succesful was because it was the first of it's genre to immerse people in a location so succesfully, and to me, this immersion came in the form of offering a believable, human setting. The human aspect of halflife was the most important part- to me, Xen threw the best device halflife offered out the window, instead offering a bland setting with unoriginal gameplay.

My point on purpose still stands... you've just named locations, none of which are conducive to any sort of 'final showdown'.

I wasn't immersed in Black Mesa because it felt human. I was immersed in Black Mesa because of how well it was paced. Xen was entirely different - I was immersed in it because of how wonderful the atmosphere was. I knew the Xenians that came through the portals were obviously from some alien world, and it was without a shadow of doubt that I knew I'd end up there eventually.

Well, I can't argue with your opinion :) Although the HL team felt that one of the shortcomings of their game was the lack of a 'final destination' that was clear from the start, hence the citadel looming over you most all the way through HL2

Hmm... it didn't really impress me, tbh. No gameplay footage, and the graphics really weren't very 'mindblowing' for me. I'm disappointed :/

This gave me chills. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm still burned out from the whole Halo 2 redesign fiasco.

I remember when Halo 2 was first announced. It was going to be city combat on an invaded earth with loads of human and covenant duking it out.

So I was a little unimpressed when I found out that the invasion fleet I'd been promised was smaller than a flea AND instead of fighting on earth and driving off the covenent hordes I end up on another damn Halo.

And don't even get me started about at Arbiter. Worst. Idea. Ever.

Any game with end-game bosses sucks, that's why Halo 2 was shite

I loved the first halo, halo 2 was okay...It just didn't have the same feel. The trailer didn't really show anything, so I pretty much feel like I still know nothing about halo 3.

I thought the Arbiter was more bad ass than Master Chief >_>

Or Master Chef as they say in the French version of Halo 2 :naughty:

Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman, stated in a May 2005 Time Magazine interview that Halo 3 would be released as close to the PlayStation 3's launch as possible, to divert sales. "It's perfect," Gates said. "The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation],they walk right into Halo 3."

Bill Gates - What a noob, Halo 3 is walking into PS3, not the other way around.... And it's not like some would spend $70 of their PS3 fund on Halo 3, rather than buy a PS3!

BTW, if their Bungie post is anything conclusive, I finally see another reason why they want to release for Vista only (Halo2 that is)...

Halo2 and Halo3 are running on the same engine (with upgraded renderer of course), and thus once they port Halo2 over, it will be SO much easier to port Halo3 over as almost the bulk of the work was already completed... Thus, we could get a port out within probably 12 months of release (I'm sure Microsoft wants to give time for it to be Xbox360 exclusive, and then go over to the PC...)

Anyways, I still haven't watched the trailer :p My download kept cutting out on XboxLive, and I promised my dad I would watch it with him since he's a pretty big Halo Multiplayer nut...

Your dad will be disappointed. The trailer doesn't have the slightest hint of gameplay, let alone multiplayer. In fact, there is no action, not a single shot is fired.

It's a freaking intro trailer. How can some of you guys possibly judge the game after watching this trailer?

Go do us a favor and just go kill yourself.

I gave in and watched it.

Looks pretty cool :) Obviously I can't wait to see gameplay, but for the people who are into the story and all of that, I'm sure this game trailer rocked...

For my dad though, I'm sure he will walk away saying "Neat, but show me Sidewinder redone!" :p

Looks pretty cool. I'm a sucker for the end of the world scenarios. But i just hope they dont **** the gameplay as much as they did with Halo 2. And i hope they fulfill their promises of epic battles this time. There was nothing epic about Halo 2.

trailer was okay but i don't doubt the graphics will be THAT GOOD ingame, i mean, look at lost planet [demo out now] & other live gameplay previews [gears of war and so on] and then add over a year of development onto it and so on.

Do us a favour and stop posting.

And, I hope they bring the Arbiter, I agree with some that he was far better than the Chief.
