Halo and Goldeneye

How would you guys compare Halo (Xbox) and Goldeneye (N64)

please leave non-console games out of this, that isn't what this disscuassion is on.

I would say:

Goldeneye was terrible its just it was Bond-themed and had a fun-sih multiplayer mode. Halo has a great asthetic and the story seems to be engaging. Thats just my opinion

btw Sidewinder.... its 'their' not 'thier' and you need to put a square bracket in your sig, methinks you deleted it by mistake

I have not played Halo, apparantly it is good though.

Goldeneye rocked, it just rocked. The singleplayer was great, and the multiplayer was amazing!

It was such a good FPS, it was just so good! I can't praise it enough.

Spent many many months playing that game, then even more months playing multiplayer.

Perfect Dark was the only thing on the N64 to come close to Goldeneye, but it 'just' didn't, cut it. It almost did, though. I can't believe Perfect Dark 2 is on the stupid Xbox though, argh! Gamecube is so much better.

And Halo defined the console fps for me. I personally liked Halo's SP as much as HL SP, i owuld have liked Halo SP more if it has been longer.
Halo MP is the best multipler experiance on any console. period.

It's nicer looking (matter of opinion).

It's lighter/more portable.

It has Nintendo and Sega games.

If you cant lift an Xbox you might wanna get some dumb-bells

Xbox has Microsoft and Sega games

Xbox comes in 2 colours ( black one + green one) and a silvery kinda one in Japan

I love Halo SP, i've never actually played Halo MP with more than 2 ppl so i cant really comment on that.

Goldeneye was (at the time) the finest fps experience you could have on a console. Multiplayer was the greatest thing ever until PD came along, even then the essence of Goldeneye was blatent

I never said I couldn't lift one, I just said the Gamecube was smaller and lighter, which therfore does make it more portable.

Of course, the Gamecube doesn't make a very good footrest, Xbox wins on that.

Anyway, lets stop before this becomes a GC vs Xbox thread :E

I forgot about the green translucent Xbox thought, that looks so great.. it almost tempted me to buy one!

I still love my cute purple GC best though.

You have not played Halo MP until you have done 8v8 CTF, blood gultch, all vehicles, to 5 points. That game lasted 3 hours of solid, awsome fun.

Same performance? it has similar, but not quite as good Gfx, no HDD so loads take forever, no online

a)consoles are only as portable as the TV.
b)It's a console, if you want portable, buy a gameboy.

a)Xbox has sega games too, and more of them
b)The only nintendo games for it that are any good are Zelda and Metroid. However, Zelda is almst reason enough.
c)I'd rather play Halo, PGR, DOA3, Brute Force, SW:KOTOR, Splinter Cell, RtCW, and more than anything on GCN. Except Zelda. That's a tie with splinter cell

So what? I guess it is just a matter of opinion after all. Xbox has absolutely nothing of interest for me and alot of other people. Alot of people I know who own an Xbox got bored of it after Halo.

Loads take forever? They do? Really? I didn't notice..

And because it's smaller, it can fit into smaller spaces.

It's a remake of MGS! :E

I agree with the whole Zelda thing, and I love my Cube dearly.
So far X-Box lacks that one real game that makes me wish I owned one (Halo 2 looks to change this), that and it can murder small animals/children if it falls.

...and every other game is coming to Xbox.

As for the loading thing, Metroid and Zelda have NO loading, and all my other games load so quick it doesn't make a difference.

Topic? What? As for the Halo and Goldeneye thing, I think Halo is Goldeneye for the next gen. A solid single/mulitplayer console FPS enjoyed by all. I also suggest that you check out Timesplitters 2 from Free Radical. It's made by the guys who made Goldeneye and quit Rare shortly before Microsoft acquired it (I don't have much hope for Perfect Dark 2 because of this). The game is made almost exclusively for the multiplayer and is a friggin' blast with a few friends and features all the Goldeneye style gameplay you could want.

I think Halo was gameplay-wise the best FPS i've played.

And Zelda fans.... beware of Fable. And Star Wars:KOTOR just came out and it owns all RPG games on consoles.

Ill take Gamecube over X-box any day. My number one reason is because im a Microsoft hater but I don't want to get into that discussion. My other reasons are that my first ever game that I played and owned was SMB, my first gaming system ever was NES, I will stand by Nintendo until the bitter end. Also becuase I love Zelda, and Xbox is more expensive and one of its only real hits will be comming to the PC very soon.

Zelda and Fable couldn't be more different if they tried, and ultimately I think you really can't compare them. I also want to check out KOTOR, but I'm sure it's cool.

goldeneye for n64 was one of the best games ever. even though it dosnt compare to games of this time, it was the more fun iv had playing multiplayer with my friends.

anyway...like someone said Metal Gear Solid twin snakes is coming out on GC, i cant flipping wait.

i will say this, i will mean this.

metal gear solid (ps1) was the best game ever made

and twin snakes, is the same game just remade graphics and upgrade, so YIPPIE!

Fable is an RPG, Zelda is an RPG, so they're comparible I think.

Star Wars:KOTOR came out the other day, it's SUPERB. Rave reviews everywhere. Best Star Wars game ever, as well as one of if not the best RPG ever.

My issue with that kind of comparison isn't that they're in different genres or anything. Its just that Zelda strives to present a fun, light hearted, and stylistic world. It doesn't conform to almost ANY of the normal constraints of the genre, and is generally just a blast to play. While we can't say how much fun Fable will be yet, its obvious that it instead tries to make its world as believable as possible. One's a little kid in a cartoon world sailing around in his boat, the others a realistic and fully customizable RPG.

You see, Fable is also a non-traditional RPG. And it doesn't have the contraints of the genre either. I know how Zelda plays... i've played a few Zeldas myself. I know the general of idea of how Fable will be, I think they will be comparible. Fable is more ambitious of a game though.

Lifthz: I don't think that Fable is at all constrained by the genre, and it's at least as unique as Zelda, if not more so. But Zelda and Fable take that innovativeness in completely different directions to the point where I don't see them really as being comparable.
I believe that Zelda is one of the greatest games I've ever played, and if Fable can reach that standard (or even come close) then I'll be more than glad to pay for it and give the developers a high-five because the industry needs more people like that.

How do I compare Goldeneye with Halo?

Goldeneye is the best game of it's time.

Funny story.

When going to rental stores, you could never get a Goldeneye. One time I saw a box thinking they actully had one in.
I was sorely mistaken. There was a note inside the box, it sais "Sorry, no cartrige". Who the hell takes back a box but no cartrige? Crazy people...

Halo is the next gen Glodeneye, hopefully to be the sex slave to Halo 2.

1) I really don't consider Zelda an RPG. If you have to put it in a catergory (other than great) I'd put it in action/adventure.

2)Fable is gonna be one of the msot amazing games ever,

3)I have KOTOR, and it is jsut plain great! good grpahics, na di'm only still on Taris, hte first area, na dI love it already. It is definitly the Best Star Wars game todate, followed closly by JKII:JO

Fable is also an action/adventure. The fighting system is action, and the world is a huge simulated adventure. They're both official referred to as RPGs though.

Halo is not all that is or that's going to be on Xbox that's worth playing... and a lot of them will never come to PC.

I never said either game was actually in the "constrans" of an RPG, and yes I know they are both unique, Fable being more ambitious than any RPG i've known about, besides maybe S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Mario 64, GOldeneye, these were the two best games ever on n64

Nintendos credibility is way higher then Microsofts

Xbox has more advanced hardware, but at the expense of portability, which in my opinion isnt important at all, because if you really want to move something, your going to move it, even if it weights 500 pounds.

Halo and Splinter Cell are the two best titles on Xbox right now, and no matter what anyone says, you will not get the same Splinter Cell expeirence on PS2, or any other system. My friend says it looks the same on PS2 as it does on Xbox, in reply i said "WHAT THE **** ARE YOU SMOKING???"
