Right. The game runs like a greased-up mouse, but I don't see the sparkly reflections on the Master Chief's armour and visor... my graphics card is a GeForce 4 MX 440, should I be seeing these enhancements? Or is my videocard way too old for that? Is there any way to check? (Please don't tell me my purchase was crap or whatever, I'm happy with it)

Na, ive got the same card, we dont get anything sparkly man. I dont think the GF4 MX's are even DX8.

nope, only 8.1 and 9 cards get shiny effect.
mrBadger, check ur PM for my "review"

Bah, thanks anyway..... Still runs great, I just don't see sparkles on vechiles and the Master Chief... I still don't know what people are on about, it not running fast. Hmmm, will my ATi Radeon 9600 Pro (coming soon) solve this prob?

EDIT: I'm waiting... has the PM arrived yet mate?

most likley, the game is badly optimised though, so dont expect amazing graphics with amazing framerates.

i got 9600 pro and i get shiny
lemme send u the PM again, check ur PM in a minute or 2

EDIT: my frame rate is 45 all arcoss the board w/ eveything high... and the bump mapping is pretty good in it

i gots a Geforce 4 ti 4400 it's got lots of shiny.. and the levels load really fast... no load screen or nothing... split second loading... is that normal?

What about GeForce 3 Ti200 128Mbram... As far I as I remember they're stronger than GeForce 4

BadgerEDIT: Shut Up, I told you, I like it, and this is not a 'teh Halo si teh scuk!!11!!' Thread.

Look for it in your nearest Gaming Store! Coming 2010.

Special!! Now Bundled with HL3

I have a Geforce 4 Ti4200 128MB and it runs ok with everything maxed. I get the shiny effects too, looks kinda neat. Everything is always a bit too clean though, in real life things don't shine that much :p .

Anyway, the game is very badly optimized. The FPS at times is total crap and the graphics are not that great. Games like Unreal 2/2k3 and NOLF2 look and run MUCH better than Halo.

Also, I really didn't like the game that much. The vehicle portions were really cool but the on foot action was boring and repetitive. They re-used the same damn tile sets 200 times in a freakin' short game. Not to mention they re-used maps over and over again. The game was really not that special. I guess its cool for X-BOX but for PC games this is just one more FPS on the shelf.

GeForce 3 is only better than GeForce 4 MX. GeForce 4 Ti cards, however, beat the GeForce 3 any time.

Yes everyone gets under 5 sec level loading - they were able to fix the ridiculous load times from the XBox (forget why, some technical reason).

Anyway, all the shiny freakin walls makes every interior environment look like a Toy-R-Us store. I turned it off.

I hate Halo. Nah... but i don't like some things about the game. Those things made me really annoyed with it. It don't seem all that optimized for the PC. I get good graphics though. everything on high and all. But the thing that really ticks me is the constant searching the hard drive. It works the hard drive like i have never seem before. This constant working the hard drive makes my game choppy in 1 second intervals. Chop chop chop. Especially after a checkpoint. Then i have to wait until the worst chopping is done with and i can play.

And whats with all these checkpoints? Its more of an annoyance then a feature. It draws you out of the game. "Checkpoint... oh no... chop chop chop" Go have a snack for some seconds and then play. I have better performance maxing out Tron 2 than Halo for Christs sake.

Well. I just realized it may be because i have a habit of making an ISO of my games and run it from the hard drive instead (my CD rom sux) which is faster. But Halo don't constantly search the CD for content ... or?

My games take forever to load with my semi functional CD drive. I'm running in DMA mode 4 so i should not have a problem right? I have no idea whats going on.

The whole point about Halo is that the enviroment isn't the focus, you are on a ring world, the repetition is kinda the point :) Erm, I don't know about you, but this game is a lot more fun than UT2003 and U2... and it runs better :)

It runs better? are you on some good drugs that you would like to share :p

Erm? Overclocked Athelon XP 1800+? I'm running it with everything turned up, and it runs much faster than any Unreal Warfare based game (with the exception of XIII) on medium settings ? Wierd eh?

(oh, and shorten that sig :p)

Well, I guess that's a decent excuse for re-using the same maps and tilesets. It still made the game boring for me, I felt like looking for a fast forward button a few times.

But yeah, it's a LOT better than U2. The online mode isn't near as fun as UT2k3 though (can't compare single player in this regard). I have no idea how you got Halo running better than UW based games. Halo runs at 800x600 with EVERYTHING maxed at 25 FPS while I get about 30-40 FPS with UW based games like U2 and UT2k3 on 1600x1200 with everything maxed, and these games look MUCH better.

How fast is your computer?

The graphics for PC halo are god-awful any way you slice it IMO. The Xbox-to-PC conversion is pretty poor, they didin't redo any of the textures or anything, everyhting is chunky and the whole game just looks severly dated.

But you can still enjoy the gameplay...oh,wait.

Actually i think the high end GeForce 3 (ti 500) can beat a Geforce 4 4200 in some tests.

The 4200 64mb or 128mb? I have the 128 and I am playing full detail 1024x768 and I get shinyness(is that a word?) and everything.

Heh, 25 fps on Halo... with everything turned up? And real fast Unreal Warfare engine based stuff? With it all turned up.... Unreal Tournament 2003 runs like my grandma (bless 'er :p) with everything on medium... yet Halo runs bloody nice... you all got DX9.0b and the lastest drivers for your cards?

Frank: Athelon XP 1800+ (running at 1.6Ghz)
256MB DDR RAM
GeForce 4 MX 420 64mb

:D

How come UT2003 runs so poorly on yours? Mine's a Athlon XP 1700+, 512 DDR RAM, GeForce 3 Ti200 128mbram and it ran (i've uninstalled it) like a dream! Smooooooooooooooth!

UT runs so slow and with so many texture errors... so many jaggies, so much lag... plus it's boring :p

I think my compy is special :D
