Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to take some time and add an “official” response from Gearbox to this thread.
First off, I’d like to explain exactly what this leaked version of the game is. About 1.5-2 months ago, we invited a bunch of domestic and foreign press to the Gearbox offices to spend some time with the dev. team and to play some Halo. When the press people left, we gave them a limited version of the then-current beta (beta 1.5). This version of the game did not have any online multiplayer and had a very limited single player game. Thanks to some not-so-trustworthy person, this build has found its way online.
It is always upsetting for a developer when someone betrays your trust and leaks a version of your game that you had no intention of releasing to the public. What is more upsetting to Gearbox is that for many of you, your first taste of Halo for the PC will be a crippled version of the game that is two months old.
We are not going to climb up on a soapbox and preach about how software piracy is wrong and only hurts those who actually make the games you play. We realize that there is nothing we can say that will prevent some from downloading this version. We only ask that you consider waiting for the official demo so you can play the game the way we intended for you to play it. If you absolutely must download the illegal beta, we ask you to please keep an open mind and remember that the version of the game you are playing is not a fair representation of the final shipping version.
With all that said, this thread is now closed.
