There are more details about the first few missions on the website, but beware of spoilers (I havent read any for this reason).

What do you think so far?

I'd play it. Halo is still fun in my book. This is will be a rental game this time around though

Have they revealed the basis of the game yet? Like is it another side story with a new character like ODST, or is it Master Chief?

I think Bungie needs to make a new game that isn't Halo related.
Although, the idea behind this one does sound pretty cool.

Don't believe it has been revealed yet but considering (from that guy's synop) that you're covering SPARTANs, you're at least one of them. Considering the mayham (planet destruction) that the plot consists of it should be badass.

I could be completely wrong here, but it's entirely possible--and just stick with me here because I know this is kind of out there and I might just be grasping at straws and have no actual facts to back up anything I say so it's just a theory; keep an open mind--this game is called Halo: Reach, right? And we've seen that there are Spartans, and you play as a Spartan, and the trailer had that planet getting glassed over by the Covenant, so I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, THE GAME IS BASED OFF THE BOOK CALLED HALO: THE FALL OF REACH WHERE ALL THAT STUFF HAPPENED.

But again it's just a theory.

I read that book and yes
the planet gets glassed
again
and again

Is this game supposed to be a FPS? I've heard absolutely nothing about it... other than the original teaser trailer thing, which showed nothing.

...Glassed? When we say glassed, we mean throwing an empty schooner at someone's head.

Is the covenant drunk? Are they throwing empty glasses at Earth?

They shoot plasma at the planet burning all of the surface to a crisp.

I totally love Halo. I think it's a great game. You know, you kill some aliens, and save the princess.

I will kill you OP with my bare hands.

Why don't you just go **** off then? Nobody is making you stay in this thread.

another spin off

and it looks the same again :|

What's the difference between the last four?

The RTS was probably the smartest thing to do for a franchise that keeps pumping out sequel after sequel, guess their originality ran dry once again.

Halo is the very definition of overrated, the sp is soooo bad.

Oh joy, more of the same copy and pasted levels. Can't wait.

Wow, I read the spoilers and I will only say that it is definitely similar to Halo 1. Doesn't sound too bad.

Also, the new warthog that sits five people sounds pretty sweet, but I'm worried it may be too bulky.

The Halo fanboys look at Bungie like a religion so it'll sell, regardless of the repetition.

Wasn't there a warthog in H3 that sat 5 people? Two in the front and three in the back.

So, is this, like, a sequel, or something dude?
Prequel to Halo 1; the events happen right before the very first scene in Halo 1. Though they certainly go far beyond after the conclusion of Halo 1 and even 3 (at least as far as the novels go).

Oh look, the exact same template.

If it aint broke ;)

ODST in firefight represents the pinnacle of fps gameplay as far as i'm concerned, and this looks like more of the same.

Imagine gameplay with the intensity and variety of firefight spread over a story driven co-op campaign. Drop ships and vehicles everywhere, constant waves of enemies - it has to be possible.

Wish they'd design a new graphics engine. Game is ugly. UGLY!

Keep in mind this is quite early in the development stage. The playtester acknowledges that the game looks ugly, but that its FAR from being finished in that respect.

Also, it is supposedly on a new graphics engine.

Beint a games developer, I know everyone at Bungie is absolutely dying when they read quotes like this. Game isn't due out for an entire year. There is so many temporary placeholders and things to be improved in there, that these screenshots aren't even close to what the final game will look like. The games I work on (student ones, currently an FPS) go from nothing to everything in less than a year, so it's definitely possible, especially with the additional artists that an actual studio has (and outsourcing!).

For an example, take a look at Borderlands. It went from "super meh" to "omg, awesome style" in less than a year.

Don't judge the games graphics based on these shots!

I'm judging it on this, ODST, and Halo3. All look shit imo.

I just played through all four Halo games and I'm going to say: No, no it isn't. I actually love Halo now, but you are wrong.

But more on that later, when I decide to actually write up a massive retrospective.

Oh, Warbie is very wrong. But he's certainly welcome to be wrong. We shan't rob him of that.

There's no right or wrong in this. The Lost Platoon firefight map with 1 partner is the best i've experienced, however.

Have you guys both tried this btw?
