Look I know this may be a pretty stupid Q guys, but is Halo on PC worth buying (even though CS:CZ is being released in like 3weeks)?

Depends.
A) Is your rig decent? If not, you may want to skip it.
B) Have you ever played it on the X-Box and did you like it? It's essentially the same.
And I wouldn't think CS: CZ should influence your decision.

Well I am getting 600k bband on march 10th, I have GeForce 4, and as far as I know my computer is pretty f**kin fast lol. I never played the xbox ver. but I really want a new addiction, so I thought i'd try Halo (friends tell me good things about it). Are the graphics any better than the xbox ver.'s, and does any1 know about the quality of the online setup and community the game has?

Some of the stuff has been cleaned up, and the resolution is obviously much better. But it was plagued with some performance issues (why my flashlight makes me lose 30fps in a small hallway is beyond me), and the single player definitly had a lot of repitition.
Overall its a good game, and theres definitly an online community for it.
Myself I'd rather CoD anyday, but thats just me.

I mean i'll prob play it til HL2 and D3 (possibly even CS:CZ) are released lol. Just wondering if it's worth the money.

Tough call, some people totally despise it, others love it.
If you can't bum a little play time off a friend to check it out, you'll likely enjoy it anyway. Its fun and multiplayer can be a blast, especially if you just like blowing crap up. :smoking:

Do you have CoD? If you don't get that instead, it's much better than Halo.

I second that. Halo isn't a lot of fun IMHO, but opinions on this one differ widely.

get COD, its way better, i have played them both. COD MP is alot better as well.

The storyline in Halo is supposed to be gd though, right?

I really enjoyed playing it on a xbox. but there is too much repetition of leveldesign(just to make it longer). isn`t it a demo out there. try it first.

Halo is a really cool game, repetetive yes, but good and the multiplayer is fun. Although i dont think you should let a game like cscz thats just a rip off of a free download influence your game buying, and like everyone else said, CoD is really fun, so if you havent plunged into that, its a great bet.

edit: and yes i thought the storyline for halo was pretty good

in my opinion halo is one of the best FPS out there for the PC. The graphics are great even for now, the animation smooth, there are little or no bugs, the singleplayer is astoundingly brilliant with an origonal and twist riddled storyline and the multiplayer is one of the funnest ive ever played (while CS and COD may be better for official clanmatches etc, halo is brilliant for a quick CTF or TD). Overally i would give the game 9/10 for the PC. The reason for the decline is that the game is old now and every1 has played it.
graphics = 8/10 enviroment = 8/10 lifespan = 10/10 gameplay 10/10

*edit* i have COD too and which is better completely depends on your opinion. in theyre seperate catogeries (console originating sci fi shooters cant be compared to WW2 realistic PC based games really) i think they are about the same. i personally prefer COD MP, and you will too if u like CS. if u love DM then get halo.

Agreed! Halo is one my best buys ever!
Singleplayer is fun but they use the same leveldesign a couple of times but I promise you, as soon as you get the hang of Halo Multiplayer, you'll be addicted to it! It's the best and I mean BEST multiplayer game ever! I can't enough of it...I think I'll go and play some MP now...

PS. Here's a picture I took of Halo the first time I tried it...stupid upload, can't upload more then 100kb...that's why the picture is so small....ass

I love Halo. It's really good, it's really good :)

I hate CoD, it's really really boringly pointless WW2 tripe :E

Halo is pretty average on the pc imo - on the XBox, with a big tv and surround sound, it is a completely different game ...... and one of the best shooters about.

Is that an actual screenshot?!?!?! Cos if it is, those graphics are amazing!

Halo is a pretty poor game IMO. I've played both versions and neither of them are very good. The game is mindless, boring, and repetitive. I personally thought the plot sucked and don't understand why so many people like it. The graphics are pretty good, but easily beaten by PC shooters like Unreal 2 (not to mention Unreal 2 runs a helluva lot better too). If Halo had gotten a PC release at the same time as X-BOX no one would still be talking about it. There are many, many PC shooters that beat it in every way imaginable and a few console ones - like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Timesplitters 2.

U can't compare Unreal 2 to Halo.

Unreal 2 is the most generic, boring shooter of recent times ....... awful in every respect - espceially the weapons. On the other hand Xbox Halo on legendary is a sublime experience :)

Sure I can compare Unreal 2 to Halo, especially the graphics. U2 has much better graphics than Halo and on top of that the game runs MUCH better on higher resolutions. Halo ran kinda decent at 1024x768 and I had to lower it to 800x600 to get it running nice everywhere. U2 ran at 1024x768 with everything maxed at a constant 30-40 FPS (cept for a couple areas). I also thought U2 was a better game than Halo - mainly because U2 is decent and Halo sucks. But neither of them are that great.

If you want a good console FPS game on recent systems, get Timesplitters 2. Much better multiplayer, better co-op, and a ton more replay value. The sad thing though, despite the fact that it's mainly a multiplayer game, is that the single player is much better and much more diverse than Halo's. If you want the best console FPS ever, get Perfect Dark or Goldeneye. Halo is lucky if it gets 4th, and thats because there really arent very many decent console FPS games.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one chief. 1. Many computers have surround sound believe it or not and 2. You do know that their are 32" moniters out there? Even playing the game on a 19 inch moniter is great.

I think it's a great game and it's only downfall is the performance (not all to bad on a beefy rig) and it's an old game (came out when the xbox did)

I have it and I think it's good fun. Go grab it!

I'm no fanboy...I'm not really looking forward to Halo 2 because...I don't have an Xbox but I'll surly play it on my friends when it comes out.

CoD is by far the best WW2 shooter out there but for me, the WW2 genre of games is quickly wearing itself out.

Halo on Xbox is awesome, Halo on PC sucks.

that pretty much sums it up. If you have an Xbox, get it on that, but if you really REALLY want to try it on computer, buy it then.

Halo 2 will be awesome on Xbox

Ok - u can compare Unreal 2 to Halo. Personal preference aside - Halo is widely regarded as one of the best shooters about (whether you agree or not) and loved by 1000's. Unreal 2 is generally thought of of a polished turd :) ... and rightly so.

Halo is also a very different experience on the pc.

On my 19" monitor (even with everything on max and high resolutions) the game didn't impress. The world suddenly felt tiny, less grandiose. The aiming also felt too simple (m&k isn't always the best way to control a FPS - just the easiest ;) ) which borked up the balance that made the game so intense.

Gone were the massive aliens, the rumble as you squeeze the trigger button and analogue movement :) The environments looked flat and 'straight edged', less organic. What made Halo stand out was missing. What was left over was an average shooter.

I couldn't agree with you more Sparta. imo some games (even FPS) can be better on consoles. While pcs in general rule for FPS, especially multiplay (clan gaming being my fave), consoles can still offer something unique and as immersive (like Goledn Eye, imagine that on a pc ... ergh :/)

(Wasn't really a fan of Timesplitters 2 smwScott, it felt like a poor Golden Eye/Perfect Dark. Fun muliplayer tho :))

Fair enough. I agree that Halo is best on X-BOX. I've played it a little bit on the X-BOX and can say that it did feel better than PC (which I played the single player on). It's kind of like GTA games feel better on PS2 than PC, the graphics are a little worse and the on foot control is a little harder - but its just the right way to play the game.

Still though, Halo just wasn't my type of game. I don't see what so many people like about it - there was nothing throughout the entire game to switch up the pace. The vehicles were awesome, but other than that I saw no redeeming qualities. It would have been a pretty decent game if the level design had been better. They used the few rooms tons of times. Once I thought it was weird that I hadn't fought any enemies for awhile, then I realized I got turned around and couldn't tell because everything looked the same. Then on top of the extremely gratuitous overuse of the same tilesets you had to turn around and shoot your way back through the game at the end. The only levels I enjoyed was the outdoor ones and the last level (which they actually did a decent job of making).
