Halo2 out early. Possibly Half-Life 2???

Ya was about to say its been posted already. Even if Hl2 gets released early. You wont be able to play it. It gets unlocked 12am 16th.

It's been quite officially stated that VALVe will unlock it if a retailer breaks the street date.

Where is this official statement.

And if they do , they will unlock it thru steam too , if a retail date is broken and people are buying it then they will unlock it , they wont let people buy it then just say they cant play till 12am 16th

Souce? I dont believe valve have said that.

Use the search function.....

i'm pretty sure this has been discussed.... Valve cannot disallow someone who purchases HL2 to start playing it when they bring it home....

that means that when the first person brings that copy home and logs in to steam, activating their version Valve will be notified... as they will be observing this... and then they are forced to unlock hl2 for all steam accounts as otherwise they will lose sales...

^^.... they cannot not allow someone who buys hl2 from a shop to start playing it as soon as they get home as this would create a lot of trouble.....

They can, but yea probably they'll not. :E

I've had a legit, non-pirated copy of Halo 2 for 3 days now. It seems it could quite easily happen with HL2.

the people saying valve will do this have been citing some made up info from another website and trying to pass it off as "official."

there is no reason why cheating best buy employees should be allowed to push the release date of a product, and I'm glad that valve will make them wait till 12am pacific time. Serves them right.

"ha, i work at EB Games, so I can sneak home with this retail boxed copy of HL2 and play it 2 days before anyone else! I rule!"

...later that night...

"whew, I may get fired for stealing this box from work, but it will be worth it to play HL2"

...installs the game...

"NOTICE: HL2 must now connect to the internet via Steam to activate this product. You will only need to do this once. Thanks for your cooperation"

"No problem..."

...clicks "Activate"...

...
...
...

"Sorry, this copy of HL2 cannot be activated until 8:00 AM, GMT. Please try again when HL2 has been officially released!"

Pwned.

Fired.

I have seen it to they will unlock it if retailers sell it early.

Can you please explain why Valve is obligated to unlock HL2 before the official release date? They are not legally required to support a product that has been illigaly purchased.

who knows....thats what they said, go search it up, it was confirmed in emails etc

If it appears on shelves early, they will unlock it.

Well, crackers can get around the online authorization once that have a source to work with...

So it you legally purchase the game and can't play it, you will have to get some sort of crack to be able to play if before the release date..

HL2 got alerady released at Best Buy today but it wont be activated until the 16th

Umm.... which Best Buy would this supposidly be? A few days early I could understand... but a whole week and a half early?

Hmm... now that I think about it, it's possible considering the only reason it's taking so long to distribute is because they're doing it on a global level. Naturally the US would have it first. If this is true... BUY IT! RELEASE IT! I WANT IT! :D

oops srry they changed it if you check another thread here youll see that i was right until today

I would love for you to provide a source for this official statement.

Well, I have read some other forums that said the stores that are participating in a FTM program will receive the game on Monday..

I would find it far more convincing if you could provide a link to an official statement.

Ok i got proof heres from the official Gold launch page at shacknews.com

"Steam Users: Half-Life 2 will be unlocked on steam on November 16th as well. Unless of course any retailer breaks the street date and puts it out on shelves sooner, then Steam will unlock Half-Life 2 sooner."

Yes they did say that. They said if retailers started selling HL2 early, they would unlock it.

But even if retailers sell it early, you can't play it before the 16th so it's not logical to unlock it on steam early

Read my post dude.

1: Valve said they will unlock it so we can play it before the 16th if retailers sell it early.

2: The game will be unlocked prior to the 16th if retailers start selling early.

3: If retailers start selling early, Valve will unlock the game early.

4: We can play early if Valve unlocks the game early due to retailers selling before the 16th.

5: The unlock will happen before the 16th but only if retailers start selling before the 16th.

Get it?

That's what Shacknews.com said, and they're the only site to have reported this which should be your first clue. I'm still waiting for an official statement, that is one coming directly from Valve.

Remember the old rule? "If you didn't hear it from Valve then it's bullshit."

Its because they were legally purchased, just sold in infringement of the retailer's contract with VUG.

VALVe haven't said it. People say their were 'e-mails' but i haven't seen them. Don't think they're in the long VALVe info thread either, which people normally post that stuff into.

That bit at the bottom of shacknews just seems like something they added, and assumed.

Read my post above. If someone legally purchases a game, and cant use it until said date, but is not notified of this before purchase, they can sue somebody. Nobody wants lawsuits.

Except Angry Lawyers....

Huh? Did i miss something? I've just read the full thread and didn't find anyone mentioning 2 DVDs.

Explain yourself n00b! :cheese:

this thread seems to be based on confusion and misconception

Composed by Doug Lombardi - Steam Users: Half-Life 2 will be unlocked on steam on November 16th as well. Unless of course any retailer breaks the street date and puts it out on shelves sooner, then Steam will unlock Half-Life 2 sooner.
