Valve needs to announce its plans if a retailer releases early.

because i have read this s'posed quote a few times and no 1 can ever back it up with proof.

Read my post above. If someone legally purchases a game, and cant use it until said date, but is not notified of this before purchase, they can sue somebody. Nobody wants lawsuits.

These days you can sue your own mother for giving you birth. That doesn't mean it'll get you anywhere.

And if anyone is going to be sued, it'll be retailers, not Vivendi, for selling a product that doesn't work.

If this impossible act of stupidity from retailers does take place then they will get a little fine, mayb not even that, and who ever does manage to buy it b4 street date wont be able to play it anyway because Valve will not unlock it untill 16th , so this whole thread and disucssion is totatlly pointless.

Lol i know im not helping , and niether is talking about this topic because it is simply rumours and speculation and thats where it should be. or it should be on a lawyer forum lol.

This is just another case of people that dnt wanna w8 the 11 days so they try and convince them self that it JUST MIGHT come out b4 that...but you know what ...it wont. and no 1 will get sue'd or fined.

That's what Shacknews.com said, and they're the only site to have reported this which should be your first clue. I'm still waiting for an official statement, that is one coming directly from Valve.

Remember the old rule? "If you didn't hear it from Valve then it's bullshit."

Look, all copies must be activated by steam. That is offical.
Are you saying valve is a dumb company.

Thus your saying they would most likly put every file on the retail disk and update our steam versions to 100% know how to decode the current HL2 files already.

While according to me valve is smart and put all but a certain required file(such as the launch file which is usually around a meg), on the steam version and then having us authorize it but first we need a steam update that would make steam to know how to authorize it.
SO YOUR SAYING VALVE IS A STUPID COMPANY
VALVE MAY BE A BIT UNORGINIZED AT TIMES BUT THERE SMART AS HELL.
On the www.valvesoftware.com HL2 isn't shown up on there projects..that must means there not making HL2.... god! sometimes the people that come here are wierd... Valve is smart and will have apporiate ways of disallowing anyone to play it early on the current steam version.
