Does anyone here expect Halo 2 to be serious competition for Halflife 2? What about Doom 3? If not, what will give Halflife 2 serious competition?

I have played halo 2 multiplayer and counterstrike source. and I can safely say that CS:s idly urinates on the expansion pack like effort of halo 2 - the game has barely changed, you can hold two weapons and shoot off hub caps. whoop de doo.

seriously though Halo 2 single player may be fantastic but it will not stand up to half life 2 because of the engine and the capacity for physics calculations that the pc has. halo 2 will be fun because its pretty much the same as the original. half life 2 will be fun because... Me and my friend always have a debate over this. He says halo2 will own hl2 and i say the opposite. If you look at each game throughout it is pretty difficult to decide if you look at them equally not just cuz ur a fan of one of them. I think Half-Life2 will beat out halo2 though just because of its intense story and amazing physic engine. If im wrong well my friend will never stop bugging me >_<

Halo 2 is, by no means whatsoever, a competition for Half-Life 2. To tell you the truth, the only competition for Half-Life 2, even the closest, would most likely be DOOM 3.

No offense, but if your critera for calling Halo 2 multiplayer bad is that it doesn't change much, you obviously havn't played CS:S much.... I'll give you a hint... It's exactly the same!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, some people like cupcakes and some people don't.

I liked it because it had a nice concept with all this Halo thing which heavily influenced the story. I liked the gameplay, combat and the levels (some were really shitty though, like the Library.. the outside levels were fantastic though), I liked the co-op.

It was a pretty fresh breath in the FPS genre. And remember, it was released in 2001, that's quite a while ago.

Well...DOOM 3 is a PC game, and a revolutionary one at that. Half-Life 2 is a PC game, and will revolutionize the way games are made and the way we look at PC games overall. If I had to give Half-Life 2 some competition it would be DOOM 3. That is the closest game that can be compared, though not similar in many ways, to Half-Life 2.
Halo was nothing spectacular, nor did it change anything in the FPS genre. Halo 2, seems more of the same thing with upgrades in certain critical areas to put it up-to-par with other FPSs of this time, but can't be compared to Half-Life 2's experience.
As you had stated, "[Halo was] nothing special for me"....well me, too! That is one thing we can at least agree on. It has to be one of the most over-rated games of all-time.

Doom 3 itself is hardly revolutionary. I'll give the engine credit and say it's quite advanced and maybe revolutionary...but the game sucked imo. Halo stomps all over it

I enjoy Halo for many reasons. SP is ok by yourself...but it's a completely different ballgame when you add a friend. Co-op is a blast. More games need co-op options. MP is also a blast when you're playing along side or against people you know. The sense of teamwork comes through really well. I'll relate it to playing CS with some close friends working up strategies to beat your opponents. Halo lan games are a blast. Take what I just said about CS and add an opposing team doing the same thing in the same room - then let the insults and curses fly Good times are had by all.


I'm a big Halo fan and I'm ready for Nov. 9th to roll around. Actually...it's October 9th right now 1 month.

I would say,

there is a minor compitition going to happen, cause both games are on diffrent gaming system.

Halo2 PC coming next year and only then there will be a serious compitition but not with HALFLIFE2, it may compete with Stalker and other great games such as FEAR.

I know i'll have wayyy more fun with Halo 2 simply because...

1) I'll be playing it on a 42" HDTV plasma with custom 5.1 surround sound

2) SP looks a lot cooler ( especially that new theatrical trailer that just came out today! )

3) Vehicles look awesome ( warthog vs. stripped down hot rod with a watergun...hmm )

4) Weapons look better ( plasma sword or crowbar...hmm )

5) SP levels look cooler ( HL2 just looks to...flat. )

6) Halo 2 will be better



I'm not saying HL2 will suck, because it wont, I just know i'll have more fun with Halo 2 because its more of what I like. But i'll still buy HL2 just so my comp can rape it in the @$$.

Firstly, I'd just like to point out that I've only made points in *5* threads, not "over 30" as you try to point out. Secondly, I'd ALSO like to point out that I haven't tried to force my viewpoint on anyone. I don't like Halo and I think Halo 2 is overhyped. There, I said it.

But, since I thought we were having a debate/discussion in those threads (silly me ), I thought that I would point out why Halo and Halo 2 are overhyped. Apparently that doesn't go very well with you, so guess what ? I don't care. I made alot of good points in those threads, and I won't take being called a fanboy by someone who disagree's with me.

Notice that discussion on why Halo 2 will rock the world never goes beyond "Master Cheif is a humaniod robot ("PWNED"), he can duel-weild ("OMFG !") and there are now three new colours of warthog that you can drive and car-jack (*Very Important*) and that the graphics look okay ? Wow .... what excellent argument on why it's going to pawn Half-Life 2 into the ground.

I want an intelligent discussion. In other words :

I am honestly sick of these STUPID fanboys going into other gaming forums, and posting about how "brilliant" Halo 2 is going to be !. I have been told I am a "n00b", and "idiotic" by a Halo fanboy on these forums, and I'm getting sick of it. EVERY gaming forum I frequent has at least 1 Halo fanboy per month coming in and telling them how "cool" Halo is and how it "pawns" the game the forum is about.

You know what ? I don't want to know if you like Halo, or are one of the many Halo 2 fanboys. All I want is an *intelligent* argument about how good Halo/Halo 2 is, but no, that isn't going to happen anytime soon, seeing that most people that play Halo and praise it are FPS n00bs. with no former experience in the FPS genre. I have been told to "keep quiet if you have nothing to add to the conversation" in another thread about Halo, when I was raising several good counter-points.

All the reviews of HL2 so far have been saying that it shits all over games like Far Cry and Doom 3 (although, personally, i think Far Cry shits all over Doom 3)

But, if there's anyone here who thinks Halo 2 isn't gonna get the same type of reviews that HL2 is getting, they're wrong. Xbox magazines are going to love Halo 2 to death, its pretty much guaranteed to get 10/10 from the majority of magazines. And most likely Gamespot as well, because they tend to favor consoles over PC games (All games that have received 10/10 are on consoles).

Personally, if i'm gonna judge both of these games, i'm not gonna base it on somebody else's review, because its all subjective in the end.

I'll play them both, i'll play them both again, then i'll play multiplayer, then i'll get something to eat, might go to the bathroom, and THEN if i feel like comparing them, i will.

Either way, i'm still getting both of them
