My computer cannot access a variety of websites and others just fine.

It won't:

Allow me to sign into msn messenger
Download updates for Spybot S&D
Goto yahoo answers or other various websites

I ran a diagnostic on my messenger and it said there was an issue with "key ports" but it didn't resolve when I tried to repair it.

Any suggestions?

Get out of the house, get to your nearest poll and vote, everything should be fine when you come back.

That or you have a virus preventing you from connecting. Restart your computer and before you open any internet programs go to your command prompt (start > run > cmd) and enter:

netstat -a -b

Can you paste the results here?

?100 says software firewall issue. What firewall are you using?

Hmm, maybe I just lost 100 quid, although I have had Windows Firewall cause me one or two rare problems in the past... As long as you're behind a router, try disabling it, perhaps rebooting your PC, reconnecting (making sure it's still disabled), then seeing if it's solved any of your problems.

Worth also getting the netstat info for NL...

And actually Barney is right too, might start with the basics. First do what he said if that still doesn't work then power reset your modem and router. Then if that still doesn't work post back the netstat -ab result.
