When I try to test my map in Hammer, it fails with a Fatal Error stating "Could not find filesystem dll to load." What does that mean and how do I fix it?? Thanks!

Also, I read that you're not supposed to put your level in a big box, but how do you avoid those leaks then?? I'm so frazzled....

Avoiding leaks should be easy. When you build your map be sure there are no gaps to the black void it's as easy as that.

I'm afraid I have no idea why that error is happening.

Could you post the whole compile log? It might help a little to see that.

Also, look over at http://collective.valve-erc.com They are usaually quite helpful and there are many knowlegeable people there, the admin of the site is also under the employment of valve.

Do you get an error when you start the map with CS in Steam? Does it mean that the map have compiled correctly? Like Farrowlesparrow said, a compile log would help alot to tell you what the problem might be. Are you using zoners compile tools? Do you compile directly with Hammer or do you use Batch Compiler?

i have the same problem,

Don't use Hammer to compile your maps. Ever.

Get hold of Zoner's Tools - http://collective.valve-erc.com - they're on there.

Then compile your maps yourself. Hammer really sucks for compiling maps with.

Then just load up the game and test your map from the console.

i have the same problem and am using zoner's compiling tools through hammer... how do i play my maps that i make? i am starting to learn mapping as i want to begin learning how to map and model for hl2

-merc

Assuming that your map is going to the right place, just start HL/CS/whatever and go to the console. Type "map <yourmapname>" and hit enter.

well i dont think it is because i have steam and im not sure where they are supposed to go.. i cant find the maps folder..

-merc

so where do i put my compiled maps? it compiles just fine but i dont know where to put the maps in the steam folder becasue the maps folder is inside half-life.gcf!?

-merc

i havent fixed it yet! i still need to make my map playable, how to i do that with steam? where do i put my completed map so that I can play it? plz help me!

-merc

i still cant figure out what the heck is wrong... anyone know? anyone?

-merc

If you're mapping for half-life then save it to valve/maps
If you're mapping for cstrike then cstrike/maps

Maps folder is always in the root folder so it's simple.

yes i am trying to save my map to valve/maps and i am using zoners compiler tools and everything seems to be set up right but i keep getting random errors?!

-merc

i posted my errors on the thread i just started... look there plz... i really need to figure out this compiling so i can get to more mapping as i am learning how to work with the program pretty good, but cant play the dang maps!

CS is a mod of HL1. It falls under the category "mapping for HL1."

http://www.mapwars.com/mobiltune/tutorials/hammersetup/

Read this several times until you get it. The problem is first that you're trying to compile your map from the Steam folders, second that you're using the old compile tools, and third that you're running HL.EXE instead of STEAM.EXE.

Cover a brush with a water texture and tie the brush to a func_water entity. Water textures' names begin with !.

Good, good. I note also that the dot-TK is now set to redirect there. Cool.

Yes, only problem is that, I'm to lazy to figure out how to make zhlt work with hammer.

I tried pluging in the paths but when I try and compile i get the same output that you'd get if you tried to run the programs without arguments. (Yes I did have the proper hammer variables and all that jazz)

Then I got Nem's batch compiler thingy but I cant get that to work either. So I might end up just writing my own batch file and doing it that way, but I'd prefer doing it in hammer (Dunno why, easier I guess)

Heh,
Well if you ever remember feel free to share. If not, don't worry about it, I'll get unlazy eventually. Or maybe someone else knows.

Help!!!!

When i want to open my map is says "WARNING: couldn´t open chat.wad" what is chat.wad??? do someone have it in here??????

http://www.slackiller.com/tommy14/errors.htm#manytext

My compiler askes for a wad I didn't use and don't have
First, I hope you check the spelling of the .wads you entered into the map editor. Obvious, but never hurts to check.
This usually happens because of the Too many Wads problem. Remove any wads from WC/hammer you did not use in your level. Try to keep the maximum number of wads installed in WC/hammer 8 or less.
Another solution that sometimes works is to make an empty wad, a wad with all the textures removed, and install it as the LAST one in WC/hammer - this especially seems to help Hammer map editor.

http://www.slackiller.com/tommy14/errors.htm#odd

There are several problems which are not normally detected, and can show up as false warnings of other problems.

* Most notable of these is the "too many wads" error. If you have more than 8 wads in WC, then weird problems CAN occur - but not always, and not for everyone. Always check that you do not have too many wads when your problem doesn't "fit" the solutions...

Help!!!!

What does this mean: "0 brushes (totalling 0 sides) discarded from clipping hulls createbrush:"

That's a message informing you that you have no nonsolid brushes in your map.
