When I defragment my hard drive it always says that some files could not be defragmented and after the process it still says that the drive needs defragmentation. Does that mean my drive is corrupted or something? I don't have any reading errors.

I tried defragmenting with the default windows application. Someone recommended Diskeeper but I want to be able to leave the PC on for the night for the defragmentation process to take place. Diskeeper it seems performs it in the background and I don't want that.

What can be the cause?

Use Diskeeper, by default that "Set it and Forget It" option is off. I don't use it, but I defrag whenever I want to. Some of the files that won't be defragmented are probably "Fragmented Folders". Diskeeper doesn't defrag those either, but in Diskeeper if you set a "Boot Time Defrag" it'll defrag them. You have to pay for Diskeeper unless you like to you know... "Arrrrrrr" pirate software. Newsgroups rock!!!

I've used that prog in the past and its a pretty cool. Alot faster than the windows defrag utility.
