Best Graphics Card

Ok im and idiot when i cums to pc's :rolling:
I have a Nvidia Gforce Mx440 graphics card and i can run half life 2 on good graphics all on high execpt water reflections and shadows and texture detail is there any website or anything i can do without upgrading my graphics card itself to enhance the graphics because when i change them it just reverts back to default

I've gone for ATI for the last 2 generations (I think they have the slight edge in value for money).

Both companies make great cards though - choose wisely and you'll be happy with either.
 
You wont see much of a difference because the MX440 is only DX 7. Whenever you have some cash try to find a newer card. Right now Nvidia has the lead in graphics performance but ATI is comming back with their X850 cards that are faster and suppost to be cheaper (although they are in high demand so prices are high). I would reccomend a Geforce 6600GT or 6800GT depending on the money you wish to spend.

As DrDevin said. So anything you can do to improve things wont help all that much, other than seriously bog things down (which will have the effect of screwing up with the physics so they end up crashing more too)

Really your best bet is to get a new card, I know its annoying to have to do that but at some point your going to need to anyway, and believe me, the difference in HL2 from a Geforce4MX and a DX9 card is pretty big, already looks great in DX7 but DX9 looks brilliant.
