Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Why are the books so great the and the films are shit?

I read the first book and it was utterly appalling. The 1st film was great! The book doesn't even come close to the vividness, the colours, the music, the texture of that 1st film.

The descriptions of the scenes in the 1st book are so blunt and short. There is really nothing beautiful about it. Ron in the book is a shadow of the Ron portrayed in the film and Hermione in the film is far more full of life that Hermione in the book.

Why are the books praised so much?

Can't understand ?

It's like triple A titles in gaming.

The 5th film was a disappointment. It sucks that Alfonso Cuarron is not returning. The trailers looks awesome so far though, I hope this one's better.

Potter... Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser for the coffee-n-cake-crowd.

I think the series is a stealth swipe at hardcore Sword And Sorcery fans. -Brushing writers like Mike Moorcock and Robert E. Howard under the rug.

I doubt it. JK isn't exactly subtle.

A new trailer is out and it includes zombies and other awesome stuff. I just wish they would leave the sappy love relationship humor: http://wbads-23.vo.llnwd.net/e1/wbmovies/halfbloodprince/trailer/Champion_D_720.mov The only good love relationship was with Harry and Ginny because if you could imagine that scene, all of a sudden you cared about that relationship continuing.

The International trailer is also out: http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/harry-potter-and-half-blood-prince/feature-trailer

Also I hate how people don't like the series because it was made for the kids. It never was in the first place. A kid got his parents murdered as a kid and now seeks revenge almost like the Yakuza gang killed everybody except for the baby. Of course people are going to die and it will become more mature. The actors also accurately represent the age that they would be in the book. If you substitute things in the real world such as wands being guns, HP is awesome. It even has werewolves, trolls, vampires, spies, a scene where the mafia crashes a wedding, and Nazis. Just imagine Hitler having multiple lives with all sort of fictional animals at his disposal during WW2. They even mentioned a Lenin like character in the book. Ms. Weasley was in a final scene with Narcissa and shouted at "the bitch". There was even a torture scene. So if you don't like a dark HP, then please go read the books and you will understand it more (and have a better experience).

How does the Millenium Bridge appear when this film is set in 1995? Or have they done away with the dating for the films?

lolworthy photos there hool.

Series of books made for kids can be awesome (e.g. His Dark Materials) it's silly to dislike Harry Potter for that reason.
Disliking it for good reasons is much more sensible.

I was in the cinema to see Burn After Reading, and the trailer for the new Harry Potter comes on and I think "that looks good." WTF?!

Meh, the trailer for Max Payne looked pretty good too.

Damn it, the end of that trailer...

"Fight back, you coward! Fight back!"

Refer to what I said last year in this thread. :(

I actually stopped reading the HP books after Prisoner of Azkaban, just lost interest or something... although I did get the very last book and it was a decent read and a decent ending to the series.
Are any of the other books actually worth reading even after watching all of the movies?

Azkaban was the only decent adaptation; the rest of the films sucked something ridiculous. As Alfonso Cuarón is not returning to helm the final two, my expectations are extremely low. The books are pretty good, and they're a great deal more worthwhile than the movies.

I love all the books and movies, so I'll definitely go and see this one. As far as both books and movies are concerned, Prisoner of Azkaban was the worst... but that's not to say it wasn't epic like all the rest, just not quite as good.

I can't wait for this new film, especially after seeing the trailer that was just posted above... O.M.G.

Hate, hate, hateee the actor who plays Dumbledore. Wrong height, wrong voice, stupid beard band... bah.

Specially because Richard Harris (who played the role in the first two movies) was EXACTLY how I imagined dumbledore to be.

Yeah, it's really too bad that he died.
Wonderful actor.

Meh, the movies are very boring to watch. As for the books, not exactly a novel reader, unless I have to read it for school.

I liked the movies about as much as the books when I was younger. But I appreciate the books a lot more now, its been too long since I've finished it and this is like a random revival. I hope its good nonetheless.

Got it in one.

Yes the series went down hill when Richard Harris died, he was so much better than 'Gandalf Lite' Michael Gambon.

Never read the books, never want to, first time I watched any Harry Potter film was couple of months ago.

Just saw this film. I think David Yates likes to watch kids make out. That is the biggest thing I took from the film because in every scene, it had kids making out. Many boring scenes, many boring scenes filled with love drama as well. Only good scene was the zombie part but the zombies looked like Smeagle. There was just no cohesive anything in the film. Like it was just ACTION......CUT.....NEXT SCENE....ACTION, etc.

just from reading this I have to believe that you didn't read the book. almost every chapter had someone making out and the kids are going through some hard times :naughty:

It's been a few years since I read the books. I need to re-read them. Yates put a huge emphasis on love drama though. Many gags were beating a dead horse as well. Ron kept reminding Hermione that she had toothpaste on her mouth. The acting performance of Maggie Smith and others were not great either. I got a sense they were just going through the ropes to finish the movies. Except for Tom Felton who played Draco Malfoy. He is becoming a good actor.

The movie ended with the camera panning to the sky at Hogwarts again. Developments such as Fenrir Greyback (aka Mr. Awesome) and his relationship with Lupin was left out. Many scenes were just hacked to bits and left out that were very crucial. Hagrid never came out his cabin when it was being burned leading the audience to believe he was killed.

Just mainly the movie skipped happily about focusing on love drama rather than action, and the imminent final movie(s). Just mainly things are not explained or why they happened, they just happen.

Going to be seeing this tomorrow. There's lots of kids making out?

Hey, maybe this is a good movie to see on mah date.

I disagree with pretty much everything hool is saying. Love drama is common in parts (no more common than they were in the books) but it never takes any precedent over the main plot. I have to say there was maybe 2 or 3 scenes with making out, and it's not as if it occured a lot in them. As my memory serves me it was very true to the book and I found it enjoyable through out. I still hate the giant black smoke trail things but it seems they are here to stay.

No, he doesn't.
He doesn't? I thought he did. My bad.

Maybe that explains why he was still bored and disinterested during the
"DON'T CALL ME A COWARD!" scene

Oh wait but he's like that in all his movies, so nevermind.

Not in Michael Collins.

I don't blame him for not trying with such a meh character. Maggie Smith is just going through the motions too.

Haha. You don't like Alan's acting too much I take? I always thought he played the part rather well actually. Then again, that may be because he is my favorite character.

He's intentionally hamming it up, I imagine he doesn't give a crap.

saw it today-****ing horrible no real direction what so ever you were waiting for something happen nothing ever does....waste of $10

General observations:

-Lots of weird stuff went on. Burrow scene, L and T a couple already (?), etc.
-Emma Watson's starting to get seriously hot.
-Why does anyone care about Dumbeldore's death? The real Dumbeldore died 3 films ago and no one cared.

-ps - third comment was not to be taken seriously.
