Harry Potter anyone

I read a Harry Potter fanfic once. Three, actually: meant to substitute books five, six, and seven.

I started reading them about a year or two before book seven came out, so sometimes I mistake what happened in the fanfic with what actually happened in the book.

Never ended up finishing reading the last one, though.

The name of that first book was "Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent," I believe.

I like how the last couple of books portray Harry and Dumbledore as utter pricks of the wizarding world.

Or did I grossly misinterpret? I hope not. I love hating HP.

lol I dont agree with you totally but im not one of those internet knobs that will bust your balls over it XD

Harry is a complete dick later in the series.

A great series regardless.

Very enjoyable to read & i'd like to see how you would react if you were in his place.

Lol

i gotz a book

YEAH!

Harry Potter is the most overrated mediocre pulp I've ever read.

JK couldn't write her way out of a wet paper bag even if she had a really really sharp fountain pen.

Millions disagree with you.
Although, 90% of the HP fanbase consists of kids anyways.

Millions paid to watch Meet the Spartans.

Do you have a point?

Oh, the "get out of jail free card" when replying to criticism :P

Yay!! I startede an arguement....oh...wait..this happens millions of time each day on t'internet

Forums contain debate.

In other news, Palin supporters borderline retarded.

I stopped liking harry potter when rowling said dumbledore was written to be gay. Now the whole dumbledore/harry thing freaks me out.

Well, I'm sure they regretted it afterwards. Wait...why am I posting in a Harry Potter thread? God Dammit.

What Dumbledore/Harry thing?

A GAY older male was a friend and role model to a young boy must mean OMG PEDO.

Storm in a teacup. Of course, the characters have no depth or nuance anyway so the author saying one of them was a homosexual is pretty irrelevant.

You are of course welcome to think what you like about the series, but remember this:

JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, has more money than the Queen of England does due to the sales of Harry Potter worldwide which means her poor writing skills (according to you) has made her filthy filthy rich. The interest alone from the sales of any one of the books opening day, is more money than you, Eejit, will ever see in your entire lifetime.

So yeah, the wet paper bag remark in your comment really holds water.

And the writers and directors made millions. Doesn't make them any good and it doesn't mean we shouldn't criticise their oh so obvious shortcomings.

Millions & millions & millions of people would, I believe disagree with you. Perhaps if you made that comment after the very first book and/or movie came out & they failed to garner such a following, then your comment would hold water. However, since that is not the case....

That may be how YOU feel & thats totally fine, but other than that....

On a totally different tangent, though regarding HP, I do find it very amusing how religion was so against it. They would want you to believe that a man died (for you & me) & then came back to life (Necromancy! eeek! Run & hide!!) & thus has been alive ever since, (though he nor anyone else has since been able to actually prove it) but they won't want you to read a Childs story...

I actually did make that comment after the very first book came out, just not on this forum. I wasn't a member in 1997. Odd that

The fact is that a huge number of the fans had barely read a novel before, read the mediocre HP books due to peer pressure once the bandwagon was established, and had nothing to compare it's quality to - but decided they must be teh best bookz evar.

I like Harry Potter for what it is, which is an entertaining read.

Not every book has to be written to perfection. It serves its purpose.

There's no such thing as perfect writing, but J.K. wouldn't even be able to recognise good writing if it gave her a six week course in rock climbing.

Having an opinion is one thing, but you my friend, are overly negative.

So how about this: YOU write a series of books better than Harry Potter & we will all judge it for how good it is. There will be no peer pressure to read it, so there will be no outside influences. From your comments, it would appear that you believe JK Rowling to be nothing more than a poor second rate author & so YOU, Eejit, should have no problems writing a novel that is superior in every way. If I/we find that your book is good, I/we will pay you money to buy the book. The more books you write that hold my interest, the more book of yours I will buy. I'll even buy the books directly from you, so that you get all the proceeds & as a teaser, I read a lot, so now you already have your first customer with guaranteed sales.

I have helped place you onto the path to becoming a multi-millionaire, buy bringing to your attention your greatness at writing.

I look forward to reading your book(s). Please contact me once you have a rough draft that I may read, or for security reasons, i'll understand if you'll not want to let such a copy out of your sight, so please contact me when you are ready to do business.

Good Luck!

Now, you mentioned rock climbing. An excellent topic. Do you have much experience or any interesting stories? I have rock climbed since I was 7 years old in & in over 4 countries. I have pics to prove & i'll link to them if needed. I look forward to talking to you further!

Again with the logical fallacies. Are those your only way of defending her writing?

Oh well it must be good, she's richer than you! Oh, it must be good, unless YOU PERSONALLY can write better!

I guess you never criticise e.g. Michael Bay or Uwe Boll or anything? Because surely he's richer than you, right? And he can probably direct better than you too!

Honestly can't you come up with anything that makes sense?

1) I can't write better than JK, though I wish I could. There are doubtless thousands of authors all over the world that are much better than her & sadly they do not share the same success that JK has. I very much enjoy the Harry Potter series, but if I had to choose, I would say that Stephen King is an author who's works I enjoy more than JK's.

2) I enjoyed Transformers & didn't think it was poo in any sense. So on that Score, Michael Bays did a good job.

3) I do not particualy enjoy Uwe Boll's films, though I won't delude myself thinking that I could make a better film. Then again, perhaps I could. Who's to say. Point is, I don't go around complaining about his films. So as it stands, he is a much better director than I am.

It's one thing to dislike something Eejit, but another matter altogether to be negative about it. I find it amusing that those that are negative, very seldom try to be anything else.

What's wrong with being negative about things I really dislike and positive about the ones I do like?

Are those the ones with Hermione having a three-some with house-elves? My gag reflex automatically kicks in whenever somebody mentions that...

/me vomits

She's no literary genius, but she's better than most writers. I'd rather read the HP books than Christopher Paolini's garbage.

Yeah his stuff isn't great either, but at least he has the excuse of being young/still developing a style.

I love Harry Potter, and IMO Rowling is a far more accomplished, talented writer than Christopher Paolini by a huge margin. The world of HP is very original, inspired, and engaging - the Eragon series is half-assed, whitewashed generic fantasy with boring characters.

Harry Potter fanfiction on the other hand makes me want to vomit everywhere.

****, is that ZT in the video?

The world of HP is very original, inspired, and engaging
Are you serious?
The whole "magicians secretly among us" thing has been done thousands of times, often far better. As has "school for wizards/witches", "orphan with a destiny" and "child hero defeats uber villain".
She took old cliches, pasted them together in a rather unimaginative way and added some one-dimensional characters with only the most basic character development.
Oh and pig-latin for magic, how witty -.-

oh i just had a vision of great lulz to be had, its time to rally up the /b/tards

On another note, i really enjoyed reading the original books when i was younger.

This is where our disagreement lies, I think her characters are fantastic.

Note that I'm pretty nostalgia-biased, I've read every HP book on the day it came out except for the first one, and I was almost the same age as Harry pretty much the whole time.
