Has any build of Half Life 2 been Beta tested yet?

Just wondering. Does anyone know if Valve ran a closed Beta test yet? I never read anything about it, but I figure if they were shooting for a Holidays 2003 release initially, then surely they would have had a working beta ready right?

I understand the source theft screwed up everyone plans, but was there a near final version ready? Or was the stolen version of the game the only working beta, or alpha they had?

Was this ever straightened out?

pretty sure they were beta testing it for quite a while by the sounds of it

I dont think so.. they worked on this game for 5 years so i really hope they got more

But... as always... we dont know.

This is simply not true. You have to understand this, the hacker had to compile the game himself. This means that the art work he had might have been recent but the source certainly wasn't. Simple proof of this is if you play any of the e3 levels that the leaked beta had you will see they are far before HL2 was shown at e3. Most of the scripting doesn't work and source is extremely messy. It looks almost like a modded HL1, not a beta of HL2.

HL2 beta testing has been going on for ages, and probably will continue to. I remember reading interesting interveiws with Doug Lombardi about beta testing. He was talking about what beta testing shows to the actual developers and their actual expectations, but any it went along the lines of, that when beta testing the vehicles, they expected the player to hop out of the vehicle and shoot all the enemies, but of course the player just ran over them, valve not expecting this at all said, "Cool! We gotta get a sound for that!"

Its quite Obvious that what the hacker stole was Not all they had.
Have you seen the stolen version?
Some of the E3 Maps Arent even done. Some dont work correctly, and some arent even compiled! And its missing models that were seen in E3.
Unless you have not seen the stolen version, it would be very naive of you to think thats all they had.
BTW i saw it at my friends house.
