Yes, first one was okay but the sequel was just awful.

Yes indeed, I am a huge fan of Takeshi Kitano, and well, the film just rocks hardcore.

It would have been good if they removed the huge political sections where absolutely nothing happens and everyone bitches about 'that country' (guess which one).

the second one sucked pretty bad compared to the first
the first was far more personal, which made it cool
the second was just an overwrought political commentary with splashes of action that bordered on stupidity

I agree as well, the first was really good. But the second one was just... Err, not really that great. It would have been better if they cut out that pointless slaughter towards the end of the movie. Soldier after soldier getting slaughtered after each other, it just looked stupid imo.
The beginning was cool though, reminded me much of Saving Private Ryan.

They're up to number 5 now or something. Seems pretty stupid to me. I did enjoy the first one loads though. I'm currently working my way through the entire Tartan Asia Extreme collection and buying the good ones, so I should get it soon.

Not a bad film. Like the location. Could be a much better mind-**** though if they tried a little harder. Still, very good film.

yup, own it, i liked how it was nice and slowly paced until the very end, it was just such a slow burn until, BAM, and there you go... another damn good Miike flick, along with Ichi the Killer - which I love for just being a balls out crazy flick with no holds barred

Sparta, try reading the book Battle Royale if you want more on it, the book is pretty well done and adds quite a bit to what you see in the film

I've seen both 1&2 I enjoyed both. 1 was obviously better than 2.

I watched them with my brother, when the first student died and it came up with x remaining we pissed ourselves. Same goes for when the girl poisions her friends.

Sad and yet bloody hilarious.

The second one had a good first part as the original director did it, but he died half way through filming and his son took over and directed the boring, crap second half
