Hey everyone, new here. I've enjoying all the flame wars. Anyway, after reading abunch of threads I have a theory... In the official Valve info thread, someone asked if it would be possible to re-do the first half-life with the source engine and the answer was...."its already been done". So, I for one think thats gonna be something in the collectors edition. Whatcha think?

Doubt it, but that would kick ass, its been talked about before though.

They only did it to test their conversion tools. They probably didn't convert the entirity of Half-Life.

They said they tested the conversion process with some material from the original HL to see how easy it will be for modders to convert material over to HL2.

would be cool for people that haven't played it yet, but I doubt they will first play Half-Life, they will start with HL2, and afterwards HL, wich would look old and crappy to them, so they won't play it, I think.

I would play it some time after I finished HL2, and have nothing to do Would like to see all the profs and barneys and monsters in the source engine.

I'd play it, it isn't THAT long of a game. Just played though it for...who knows what time...

Once you know where all the enemys are, it actually goes by pretty quickly

I'm pretty sure he's reffering to the fact that they have already allowed people to convert maps from HL1...not that they have actually redone any.

No. A lot of work would have to go into that, its not like microwaving a frozen pizza, 1 minute and its done.

Even when hl2 comes out with hl1 upgraded or not I was already planning to extract the maps, then convert them to the hl2 engine, as they said you could in the article.

Holy crap people, you'd have to build models for all the other aliens, recode the AI into source and redo all the scripting for the whole game. The only thing you could retain is the geometry (not texturing) of the maps.

It's possible that the collectors edition will have the original HL. It might even become part of Valve's marketing to show how easy it is to transfer content from the original HL to HL2.

I'm also under the impression that the HL2 multiplayer will include a remake of the original Counter-strike in some form. Why do I say this? Well, I have no real evidence, just suspicions from a few things I've heard that aren't adding up right. I could be, and probably am, totally wrong, but I'm still wondering if it'll happen.

I don't think HL1 would look NEAR as good in source, without a complete makeover after the fact it was ported.

I agree ...I think you would be better of remaking the whole thing(with refference) instead of porting anything.

welllll... I wasn't suggesting that it would be released seperately to buy, just that it would be a bonus feature included in the collctors edition. Its easy for me to see the box saying: "Includes a revamped version of the original Half Life!". Guess we'll have to wait and see.
