I read on a web site earlier today that HBO had acquired the rights to E.B. Sledge's book "With the Old Breed" and that this book will be the source for the upcoming Band of Brothers type miniseries that HBO, Tom Hanks, and Dreamworks will be producing for HBO to be shown in 2005. The book chronicled the 1st Marine Division's Pacific operations.

Seeing as how 2005 will be the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2, the timing seems about right to me!

Oh - and it will be 13 parts long, not the 10 of BoB

You're quite right..from what I understand the budget is estimated at well over $100 million.

i hope they get the same type of actors as bob.. they made soem damn good choices.

Good point...by going with "unknowns" for the most part, I really cared about the characters more than I would have if it had been a bunch of well-known types.

I can't wait for this. Band of Brothers is just so great, I hope they do as well on this one.

wow... You just made my day, i can't wait.

BoB's actors may have been nobodies when it was filmed, but quite a few of them have moved on to much bigger projects since.

Old news(suprised no one has heard about this, it was anounced atleast a month ago), I just hope they don't screw up and get Ashton Kutcher(biggest deuche ever) and Brad Pitt or any other well known hollywood-whore.

I actually knew about the project since July/August of last year.

I'm only posting the most recent information I discovered, that being the licensing of the "With The Old Breed" book by HBO.

Awesome, Mr. Speilberg in on this?

Hmm... me grandpappy was a pilot over the pacific in WWII, didn't see much action but had a bit of fun bombing Jap bridges :p

Yes...I believe that Mr. Spielberg will have the same role as he did on the previous BoB - that of an executive producer of some sort as Dreamworks SKG is involved.

holy crap. that's amazing. i loved BoB so much.

Glad I could make your day man! I'm really looking forward to it as well...not enough movies focus on the PTO IMHO

By the way, how are things in Gatortown. I was at UF from 1993-1997 back when Steve was the coach and we won a National Championship over those stinkin' Noles.

I'm current in grad school up here at Georgetown in Washington DC.

One of my Grandpas was a navigator for a b-24 in the pacific and the other was a corsair pilot. And I think my great uncle was in all of the landings(atleast I think all) with the marines.

Awesome, mine flew a corsair too. I've got a photo of him sitting up on the back of his cockpit, taken from another plane to his left. They were both grounded for 3 months :D
