i dont know what happened but before i was playing HL2 with the recommended settings for my graphics at
1280 x 1024 resolution and id get about 30-40 FPS. now ever since i got this update that features HDR in HL2, im getting like, 9-16 FPS at all the recommended sttings and i even lowered the resolution down to 800 x 600 and its rediculously slow (cant spell). but then i try Doom 3 and Far Cry just to make sure it wasnt a problem in the nView settings or something and those games runs just fine with no performance drop. i know its an ATI favored game (i have nVidia) but it used to be fine... any suggestions or is anybody getting the same problems with lower-end cards?

my system:
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (oc'd to 2.1 GHZ)
Centon 512MB DDR400
PNY Verto GeForce FX 5500 128MB AGP 8X(oc'd from 270 core/400 memory to 328/459)
Soyo Dragon V2.0 Plus (VIA KT600 NorthBridge)
Aspire 500W PSU

It is becuase the new update reverted your dxlevel to 9. To change this while in game open console with ` and type mat_dxlevel 81, this should fix the problem right away. It is because your card doesnt support dxlevel 9.

hmm... my card supports DX9, sorry i forgot to mention that, but it is a DX9 card, otherwise Doom 3 wouldnt work

The GeForce 5x series is not full DX9, thats why you should lower it to the setting that was mentioned before, it dosen't look much differnt and with your card it will run just like it did before.

Well, it does support it. Just not very well. I have a Geforce FX 5900xt, and I think it's just a problem with the source engine, with the new update. When I do mat_dxlevel 81, it works like it did before the update. Just to let you know. And, having the card running dxlevel 9 is what is causing the problem.

well, ill try. thanks for all the help... its just, the package and the specs ive rea about it say it is but ill still try. thaks again

Nevermind...

Ever since the update dystopia hasn't work for me very well...

Lots of glitches and failure after 1-2 minutes... But that's because it's a 3rd party mod... Hopefully it'll be okay sometime soon (update)...

I thought Valve did another update to fix the thrid-party mod thing. Did, you try re-installing Dystopia?

It's not the gameinfo.txt or whatever... It's just a glitchy thing that's occuring still...

http://www.dystopia-game.com/ has a piece on the homepage under latest news that explains what's going on with me...

SO... Someday soon Dystopia will be updated and things will be okay...

some ppl dont get it nvidia cards use 16 and 32fp ati cards use 16,24 fp 24fp is the reccomendation for pixel shader 2.0 and 32fp is meant for PS3.0 well hl2 on fx cards are running in fp32 and it cant handle that well so it uses dx8 or 8.1 in the source engine so u wont lag

Before the update my recommended settings were at all high, reflect World no AA or AF, now since the update its all on high, 4X aa and 8X AF with HDR on Full .... before the update was that menu f***** or something by giving incorrect recommendations ??

Is it just me or is the thread starters name a little racist?

lol, just a tad yeah, not much ... "Call out to all Staff, can we get an Admin down Aisle 12 please, thankyou"

"Yes, there's some bad taste spilled on the floor"
