I witnessed a interesting article in the latest PC Gamer magazine, at first I was gonna brush it off but it actually came up with a good point about current HDR usage. It was saying that they over do it with lighting effect, that its just far too bright before the wavelengths of light become focused with your eyes. It showed a picture of a sheep in Oblivion at the point where you first look at it, and it was looking at the sun almost, it was a phosphorous grenade has exploded inside the context of the sheeps body. I feel the same in EP1 too, I kept thinking it was my screen but it is actually because the HDR is overdoing it. They ended saying that should only use it when they know how to use it properly. Harsh, but I believe he has a point.

I agree, hdr could be used a little more subtle.

The only ever time I had a problem was in the Core control rooms looking out onto the Core (the three with the device thingy). Other than that, it was fine.

I agree with PC Gamer. It was overdone in EpOne too. In some rooms a simple bulb was shining like sun. And some buildings in the streets of City 17 were shining eventhough the weather was dark and cloudy.

By the way, blooming is NOT HDR. It's just a byproduct of HDR :)

Oh, I'm sure you're right, I don't know a lot about this "technical stuff". All I know is they are trying to impress us by overdoing some lighting effects. :)

will my bfg 7600 gt OC support ep2 and the hdr?

Some areas were over exposed on Episode 1 where Alyx looked really white and shiny. But at least Episode 1 version of HDR is better then some other games i have seen with HDR cause i have to turn down the brightness in fear i would go blind.I hope Valve continue to work on HDR in Episode 2

I thought it was okay......sure the effect is a bit over-pronounced....but thats so you see it and go wow, look at that! Instead of barely noticing it.

I don't think it's used as badly as in Oblivion, and was used rather nicely in Ep1.

I think the effect could still get some tweaking (mainly the "blinding" effect you get and it just needs to judge better on adjusting the exposure of the scene).

I think out of all of the companies, Valve's is a damn good implementation of it.

Yeh. There's some parts where it's overdone or just wacky but mostly Ep1 is a sample of very nice execution of the technology.

I'm sure you're right too, I did not play any HDR supporting games other than Ep1 so I don't know the other executions of technology. Judging from previous achievements I'm sure currently Valve is doing the best. I think in time they'll think they have proven themselves on HDR technology and start to use it better.

I could settle for something between bloom and full, full is pretty sweet but it's just a bit too long lasting for some things.

Well from the trailers in EP2, I think they may have got it just right
