Headphones or speakers??

I prefer headphones when playing ma games. Nicer experience, can hear every little thing. Just make sure to get comfy headphones! Right now I use some bland Sony ones...they do the job.

speekers if the hosue is empty - that way i can turn up volume and make the house rumble wen sumthing explodes, very cool stuff ;)

hedfones if ppl r in house...tho after a wile my ears start to burn o_O

btw forgot to mention

no1 cares what you have.. nor would they care what i have. but for single player i would use speakers, for multiplayer i would use headphones... i can hear footsteps better with headphones

i like to have both going, headphones for the intricate sounds, but my subwoofer going for those deep explosions and other low-end stuff that you can feel

I myself gonna go with speakers for sure. With an Audigy 2 CZ and Creative's Inspire t7700 7.1 spkr system I don't think I could get a better and more audible immersion into the game from anything else. (I know these surround headphones has begun to show up too, but I think it's a bit too early to start looking for those right now.)

I like headphones. Mostly becouse i play late at night, and i'm right next to my parents room. I got Sennheiser HD497's

I tried them at a lan party I went too, and I just had to get a pair
.

7.1 speakers >>> fake sounding headphones.

id shoot myself listening to blackhawk down with headphones. there goes the superb dts. or hell COD. no more bullets wizzing. just fakery

I use that cheap sound on my motherboard so they both sound about the same to me. :(

What's the best headphones i could get for like 60 bucks or less WITHOUT a mic? I really hate having a stupid mic attached. Plus id also like those ear warmer kinda headpphones, ya know the ones with the....screw it u guys know what i mean.

"headphone setup" lmao, you mean 1 headphone.

yes i have 1 great set of headphones. They allow me to hear better things than speakers. yet i like my speakers better. feels more realistic. the 5.1 vibration and such. just awesome and theater like.

different strokes for different folkes. only advantage i see in headphones is doing better in games like CS were knowing exactly were your opponents are is key.

not quite. good source, interconnects, dedicated headphone amp, etc

anyways I was just questioning your statement about only your speakers being able to play "loud yet super clear", which I can't see your reasoning for saying that .

I do understand the lack of visceral bass that you can feel, that is a downside of headphones(though some have found workarounds).

Speakers. I used to use headphones... until I got speakers. :)

I used my headset frequently until I got pissed off and slammed it on the table. I'm back on speakers.

P.S. just to make this a bit more relevant to the thread i'd best just mention something to do with sound. So erm..... plantronics 90 yeah, monster monster(mine cost less than £20 and i still haven't managed to break the little buggers)

i prefer headphones as i use Zalman Theatre 6 5.1 headphones. im also planning on getting a zalman clip on mic thats made for my headphones so i can use it as a headset as well :D

HOw do yolu like those headphones? those are the ones with 6speakers right? Im thinking about getting those.

Fogit that ish- I bought some $40 Altec Lansing's and I get perfect sound and footsteps through the advanced sound files that linger deep within the matrix of fun that is no other than...... Counter-Strike! (note, those are not beers.... it' cream soda!^_^)

6 Speakers????? Nope. They are Headphones. Two speakers made by Bose.

I've never heard sound so good from headphones. They can handle a increadible about of Bass. Counterstrike shakes my brain.

but speakres seem more realistic. Headpohones feels hollow and surreal.

i like a deep theater type feel over highly accoustic synthetic feel.

Dts surround sound with a 5.1-7.1 setup is way better than headphones for surround sound.

It depends on the speakers, and depends on the headphone's.

Get a tricked out headphone setup and listen to it? :)

I got some wicked headphones. Come HL2 I'll be wearing them the first time I play single player, if feel more immersed when I'm wearing headphones. I've only got a
2.1 speaker setup anyway, if I had like a 5.1 setup I'd use that instead of the phones though.

And what kind of HP's are those?

Sony 5.1 home theatre via onboard nforce soundstorm plus mic for multiplayer teamtalk. It's like having your mates in the same room :E

Headphones suck and are too uncomfortable, there's no way they can tell you that your teammate is 20 feet behind you watching your back in the middle of an online firefight and you don't get your bones turned to jelly by the sub when an artillery shell lands next to you.

Warning - Don't buy an asus a7n8x-e if you want to have 5.1 sound with an audigy card - there is a major compatability flaw that creative and asus know about but neither will admit it's their problem.

I prefer speakers, but if I play during teh night, I have to use headphones since otherwise my sister gets cranky, since she sleeps in the room beside mine.

Ok, there are two headphone topics with the exact same name in different forums, and it's confusing the heck out of me!

I like 'em. The surround quality ain't that of a good 5.1 speaker set, but it's okay. The bass is excellent. And turning on all 6 channels with Winamp when listening to (stereo) music really gets some nice full sounds.

Besides, I seriously doubt you'll find a decent 5.1 set for 40 bucks :E

Dang, good I was this thread. I need to buy some headphones for Dreamhack next week... Altough I will only use them during DH. Have a 5.1 system and I think that's better than headphones. =)

I where crappy Labtec $19.99 headphones and they are way better than my sound system. Having headphones in Counter-Strike is practically cheating because you can hear exactly where someone is - but it's not. hehe

And as Ritual said, it is good for when parents are sleeping.

a nice pair of 5.1 headphones mmmmm.....

I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe with an Audigy and 5.1 speakers. Been running them since October and it's them most amazing sound setup I've ever heard. Got rid of my hi-fi and everything. I've never had a single problem.

The surround sound in games is f00king amzing too I might add. EAX is just fantasic.

Headphones all the way. They really add to the immersion more than speakers can (they're essential for multiplayer too)

just asking. do you have a true 5.1 setup over 400 watts, used with dts/dd?

oh and i hope hl2 supports 7.1 i might get the gigaworks. owns.

Ok guys Im gonna buy a pair of headphones for HL2 and Im now trying to decide between the zalman 5.1 HP's http://www.xoxide.com/za51suulgahe.html
or the
io magic 5.1 HP's which alos come iwth a amp
http://www.iomagic.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?Category=75&ProdID=IHD51

anyone tryed both of them or have any suggestions on which way to go .... I have read only a couple reviews but the io magic ones seem to have evrything the zalman have but plus a amp and better bass than zalman?????????????????

I would buy neither of them, unless bad sound quality doesn't bother you. Right now true 5.1 headphones are in their infancy, so it's more of a gimmick right now than the real thing. If you want quality surround sound better to go with something like Klipsch speakers, or if you want quality headphones find some sennheiser or grados headphones with a head amp.

You're one of the lucky few. Are you sure you've got full 5.1 and not just enabled LFE redirection?
