Yeah, i'm also wondering: How much momery should I allow Half life²?
I have 512mb DDR and my half life runs in Dx8, 800x600, medium texture and model quality, low quality shaders and high quality shadows.
I usually set the heapsize to 312 000, is that enough?
Thanks in advance.

i think that's more than enough. In fact I think it may be too much unless XP isnt using that much memory in the first place. I'd upgrade the memory to at least 1GB, but if HL2 runs fine with ur current config than I see no reason to upgrade.

Ok, thanks a lot, I don't see any difference between a 312 meg heapsize and no heapsize at all so i'll stop messing with my Half-Life.

Actually, if not specified, HL2 uses 256 MB of memory for the heap. So technically you would be using half your physical memory.

What's the command for specifying the heap again?
-heapsize [Kilobytes]

Put that command line in the appropriate target field.

Put it in the Launch Options before you start the game.

I usually add command line arguments to the target field in the shortcut.

If it's related to Steam, then you do a shortcut argument. If it's in-game, just do it via the Launch Options (right click on game).

If you set your heap size to 1 Source doesn't load unsurprisingly enough, it requires at least 48 megs for the heap. I would have though VALVE would have clamped it at 48 mb's.
