I just started playing, but can't formulate an opinion yet. :x

I have some thoughts so I'll talk :D

This game is bloody brilliant, I played a bit of HoI2 earlier this year, but couldn't really get into it, but I still enjoyed it. After playing an early version of number 3 I knew it was going to be good, thus I was overjoyed when I played the final version of the game and saw how good it was :D

Playing as Turkey and in 1940 Germany has already taken control of about half of the UK :D

Anyone else playing it?

I am, sadly, like all Paradox games, it is still very buggy, even with the latest patch+hotfix(1.1c)

Personally I'd say I've had more fun with HoI2 than HoI3 so far, BUT the potential for HoI3 is great, especially the way they have made the series a lot more accessible by letting you toggle AI control on and off for every single area of the game, letting you manage everything, or even nothing.

One of the biggest issues for me is, that for a game that aspires to be a historical strategic simulation, it has a very hard time following history, for example, in 9/10 of my games, the USA actually physically enter the european war in the year 1939.

That's pretty annoying in comparison with HoI2.

What's the learning curve on this game? I've been interested in playing all of the HoI games but never had the chance to get into them.

Easy to learn, hard to master, especially with HoI3, there are AI toggles for every department, you can let the AI handle your research, finances, military, with you just handling diplomacy and politics for example, or the other way around, you can have the AI doing everything but you managing the army, it's pretty cool because it lets you pretend to be a general for example :p

Before the thread got locked I was going to say "I played it for 10 minutes after reading the tutorial pages and then my brain exploded."

I've been playing. I played as Republican Spain and beat the Fascists in the civil war then went on to annex Portugal, Vichy France, and Italy. Overall it's a great game but with a steep learning curve to those who haven't played the previous games, also it's in dire need of patching, but the devs are on it.

Its pretty easy if you bother to listen to the tutorial (which goes on for like an hour)

I would say, wait a month or two and let them get more patches out. The performance is awful. Diplomacy seems to make everyone go to the Allies regardless of country. But I'm playing HOI2 to pass that time.

The performance and diplomacy issues have been pretty much fixed by user hotfixes.
