With Day of Defeat: Source having just been released and Call of Duty 2 just around the corner, you may have little need of any more World War 2 games. However, you shouldn’t make the mistake of overlooking the great new WW2 modifications volunteering for the front lines; some of them, like Heat of Battle, are looking very promising. Just take a look at their new media shots; [br]

Way to represent your mod team.

Just because you're bored of the genre doesn't mean the people making it (and putting the actual effort in) are. Jesus, these people are making something in their free time for no charge for people to play. Whether or not you're interested in the genre is pretty ****ing unimportant.

You might be suprised to hear that the person who modelled the weapons is probably quite proud of them. You might be sick of seeing them, but it doesn't mean that it's not a good model. If you've not got anything constructive to say then don't bother saying anything at all, asshole.

You didn't say anything about the character model. Is that because you're not sick of them yet and had to keep with your post consistently filled with useless comments?

WW2 is only tired out because people make shitty games of it. There are few very rare games that capture the mix of strategy, action, and plain old fun factor potential that WW2 has. There are still great concepts of this colossal war that have not been put into games, atleast not successfully.

So stop bitching and encourage the mod ffs.

My soul motivation! Thanks for the well worded post Vegeta

WW2 is rather dulled out, but I only think the whole Omoha beach scene and such, that was such a small part, that there is just nothing left to say about it. It wasn't THAT big.

Argh... What I hate about the XSI Mod tool... You can't render a frame without it saying "XSI DEMO" and "MENTAL RAY BLAH BLAH" on the screen.

When did smash become a content writer lol :p

I played this mod for a while on CoD. Probably the best infantry WWII multiplayer I have ever played. Most people can't handle HoB battle though, it isn't your average CounterStrike/DoD game. Requires a different sort of play style and a heck of a lot more teamwork.

Gald to see you guys are making some progress!

Thanks Cooper! That's exactly what we aim for! We plan to have some additional media shortly to show off iron-sights, skins, and some maps.

Been following this since the early CoD versions. Keep it up!

They're looking really nice, especially that MP 40. Can't wait to see them all in game!

the german soldier looks nice. i like the boots :D
cant stand the XSI DEMO printed alll over the render.
good work

Blow me, dont want to hear your whining.

its no lie that world war 2 gets done over and overand over and over. If the US new it was going to be this popular they would have trademarked the god damn thing

Incidently, XSI is filth. Their interface is unbelievable. So much cheap curviness that no buttons fit on.

If you don't like it, don't ****ing use it. Idiot

And i dont use it, "idiot".

Of course i tried it on the off chance that a piece of software that has to resort to being promoted through an amateur community might be half decent.

I bet it was in the contract that Valve didnt release compiled and 'ready to use' max / maya tools straight out the box. Sad state of affairs indeed.

Ever done any modding GonzoBabbleshit?

Well, if you don't use it why should you give a shit if others do? Seriously, just one or two reasons why you feel the need to complain about XSI's interface here. How exactly should make even the slightest of difference to you?

Whether or not I've done any modding has absolutely nothing to do with the problems I have with you and your attitude to others people's modwork, but I have, yes. In case you're planning on asking, I'm not going to post any work. Like I said, it's your attitude I have a problem with and whether or not either of us have done any modding work is completely irrelevant.

Just wanted to make sure i wasnt being flamed by somebody clueless

Im not the only one who thinks this is stale. What do you want me to do, copy and paste "omg i love your work, you need awards" like the good little developer i "should" be. God damn. Your from the US right? Just incase you wonder, that question makes evey bit of difference whilst we are talking about 'attitude'. Stop posting, im not worth it. Nor will i change for you.

incidently, the HL2 version of XSI is inferior to maya featurewise and the tutorial system is less than fun if your a firefox user.

I don't expect you to lie and say "It's great" if you think it's awful. I just don't see how making unconstructive remarks about their work and then pointless jabs at the tools they're using is gonna do any good, for anyone!

I'm from the UK. Like it says above my postcount.

I'd assume, judging by the fact that they're using the XSI ModTool, that the people making this mod don't have versions of Maya or 3dsmax available to them so whether or not the HL2 version of XSI is 'inferior' to Maya is a pretty lame point really. A free version of 3D modelling software is bound to have a few disadvantages over one whose cost is in the thousands of pounds (I assume, I've never looked at the price of Maya)

I think the models look a bit bland, but a low polycount is always good, and they're also still unskinned. I'm not a modder, and don't know anything about modeling, so my criticism doesn't count. Either way, I always wanted to play this for CoD, but I didn't have it, so now I'm getting a chance to play Heat of Battle.

Yay!

The criticism of the gamer is worth a whole lot more than that of any developer. As far as art is concerned, it is important that it looks good. If it looks odd AT ALL to you, the gamer. Tell the developer. A good developer will strive to make it right.

I have full versions of 3ds Max 7 and Maya. Did i pay for a full license? Did i bollocks. Its needed for my university course, but do they provide licenses for their students or acceptable access to the software? Nope. Its not hard to get the right tools tbh. but ok, they can use XSI if they like. All im saying is that its inferior, fact. Oh, i should add that i just played al ittle more last night. The animation tools are actually less likely to **** up mid sequence than the 3ds ones are, but they take an age to set up in comparison

Why not make a ww1 mod, we need more of those!

renders look good

biplanes ftw. i wanna see a ww2 mod with biplanes. just for fun. infact. flying infantry and biplane para squads. awesome stuff

its generally bad for mod teams to release media when they are really not prepared. i would expect unskinned renders 2 months before the game is out. but the games been out for a long time... this, really, isnt the way to build hype for your mod. wait a few weeks or until you have something REALLY cool to show off. if i had a penny for every unskinned mp40 or m16 ive seen the past few years... well, i would have a shitload of pennies.

its obvious your mod team has some talent and like so many other mods has great potential but i urge you not to release every single skin or model you create, it just makes it dull.

see gustor, you dont have to be a dick to add helpful criticism.

original intellectual property please. its not that hard

Ghost, I appreciate the comments but I don't understand where you've learned that HoB:Source has been out for a while. We haven't released for HL2 yet. These images were released as a thank you to our community. They were shared with the rest of the HL2 community as a matter of courtesy. Of course, you're right. We will be releasing wave after wave of media that has been entirely completed. Until that time, please, keep up the critiques! I always appreciate them and I will always consider every one.

Thanks again!

oh i know you havent been out, im just saying, i hadnt heard of your mod, and seeing unskinned renders just kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. speaking from experience, its just way better to release things in clumps that either make people want more or satisfy what you havent given them.

its also kind of refreshing to see someone (you) represent a mod in a professional manner. way too often i see pricks say stupid stuff like "omg ww2........yey...bored of the genre..fs". ill keep my eyes on your work :)
