Heatsink installation

wha? it has to have a heatsink ...or it would melt in seconds flat ..the stock heatsink that comes with your cpu is good enough unless you're going to overclock the crap out of it. That's a high end good quality heatsink but it's overkill if you dont plan to overclock. It's also massive so make sure you have enough clearance in your case and around your cpu

ya, thats what i meant. The one I have now isnt anywhere near as big as this one im getting.....So its really not worth getting it if im not planning on messing with my bios?

no, the stock heatsink is fine ...what cpu are you buying?

im getting an Athlon 64 4400 along with a geforce 7800 GTX, 2 gigs of ram, raptor 150 GB hard drive....

and you're not overclocking? the stock cooler is good enough ...no way AMD would take the chance of customers melting their cpus because of faulty/crappy heatsinks

what case are you getting btw?

really nice set up

The stock heatsinks that come with A64's are pretty good and, as Stern said, easily good enough if you're runing at stock speeds.

good choice ..I really like that case: looks fantastic and it's quiet and has good ventilation. Make sure you dont skimp on a power supply. Get a good reliable one from names like seasonic, enermax, fortron, antec, thermaltake, ocz or coolermaster

It's Antec. It's 550 Watts. I can see nothing wrong with it.

Should i get a new sound card? I got the one i Have now in 02...im not really sure what kind it is, but id assume its crap compared to the new stuff....

if its not a 24bit sound card it wouldnt hurt to buy a new one it shoulw tell you what card it is on the side somewhere

is there a way to check and see the bit without opening my pc up?

are you sure you have a physical card or do you have onboard sound? ..meaning a soundcard that's built into your motherboard (all motherboards have onboard sound)

if it's a seperate card it will do just fine ..if you want something new go for the audigy 2 zs, it's pretty cheap and a good performer (or so I'm told)

and yes you cant tell how many bits without opening the case ...even then I doubt it ..do you have a manual?

Keep the AMD heatsink. The one they give out with those dual core CPUs are very very good. people are reselling / buying those on ebay. They are that good.

That's an interesting spelling of "suggest," Revisedsoul...just how it sounds lol

Tyguy that seems like a great setup, but what mobo are you getting?

If the motherboard only has 2.1 sound then I would get the card Stern suggested...

most likeley it will have 5.1-7.1 sound none lower. but buying a sound card is better then the intigrated

that should do fine for what your doing its a 7.1 card and you can record guitar with it. also if you didnt notice its a crossfire board. are you meaning to buy one and crossfire some ati cards?

no idea...im getting that and a nvidia geforce 7800.....just want good performance....whats crossfire?

it's the ATI equivilant of SLI ..crossfire is for ATI video cards ..SLI is for nvidia

I would buy a Sound card if you are recording like that. Just incase you blow your sound...it isn't the one on the board then and it can be replaced. My brother had recorded a few things on my dads computer with his guitar and the card got shocked or something. lol
Not to mention a creative or M-audio card will be better for recording anyway.

ok, what should i look for......what dollar range.....i dont wanna get something overboard, but i also dont want something crappy.....

and.....sorry to be a moron, but SLI......can someone explain?
