OK. I want to upgrade my Heatsink and Fan from the Stock AMD one. I was wondering which out of these would be the best, or wether you could show me some better ones.

Heatsinks:
ThermalRight SI-120 (Socket 754/939/478) Heatsink (HS-023-TR):

Gigabyte G-Power Pro (Socket A/754/939/478/775) Cooler (GH-PDU21-MF) (HS-004-GI):

Akasa AK-913 EVO 33 Direct HeatPipe Copper with Fan Controller (Socket 754 & 939) (HS-024-AK):

Which would you recommend out of those? I'd get a 120mm fan with the first Heatsink from that site too.

Thermal pads/paste:
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) (AC-000-AC):

Akasa ShinEtsu Thermal Interface Pads (OA-000-AK):

Which would be better to get out of those? I'm guessing the Artic silver. But i'd thought i'd ask :)

Thanks for any info.
Feel free to recommend me some other stuff. I just want to keep my CPU cool, i want to overclock :)

Thanks.

Personally i find the fan on the gigabyte but ugly. I like the thermalright though, and a decent quiet fan in combination would go very well, although make sure there is space around the socket for a sizeable heatsink.

Two other options are the artic freezer 64 and the akasa evo 33, also both brillians hsf's.

I have an artic freezer 64 on an amd 64 3000+ in a rig i just built, and i have overclocked the cpu from 1.8 to 2.475 and at full and sustained load the cpu runs at 52 degrees c, and tbh the heatsink could handle more, but i've used all 550mhz of ddr with an fsb of 275.

:E

Oh and artic silver 5 ftw all the way.

the evo33 is an ace hsf, i got one and i run the fan at a pretty low rpm that actually makes it completely silent and my 3500+ 120nm cpu runs at 28degreesC idle and 40degreesC under load. Also the gigabyte might be ugly but its pretty effective apperently. I know the xp-120 is a great heatsink but i'm not too sure how well teh si-120 performs.

I'm not bothered about looks. I can't see inside my computer once it's closed up. I just want something that will keep my CPU nice and cold.

And that Thermalright heatsink should fit in easily, and all i need to do is buy a 120mm fan to put on it to give it the airflow.

Thanks Essy baby ;)

That evo33 sounds like a good hsf. Hmmm, i'll add it to my list on which i should choose :p
I also heard the gigabyte one was effective, it's why i chose it.
And i think the si-120 performs the same as the XP-120... just it's raised up so it's easier to fit in around components?

Thanks Duffers.

Aah, that should be handy, because other 120mm compatible hsf's can be pretty hefty beasts and can get in the way of capacitors and the like, meaning bending of capacitors is sometimes needed (eek !!)

Although tbh i think the artic freezer, gigabyte and akasa hsf's will do the job just as well and probably for a touch less money, and with the fans under control, quietly, but i guess a 120mm fan on that thermalright will be even quieter. But imo one of the others should suffice.

If you are getting the Thermalright or Zalman's CPU heatsinks then double check compatibility because they are wider heatsinks and may or maynot work with your motherboard. Although that new 120 thermalright model works a lot better with the boards.

I personally like Thermalright heatsinks best and I have the XP90 with quiet fan on it. Most of those heatsinks will do just fine though as I was able to OC my Athlon 64 3000+ (2GHz) to 2.3Ghz on the stock heatsink with AS 3. Sitting at 2.4Ghz right now but also quieter. =p

Artic Silver is going to be the brand you want. Artic Silver 5 is the best paste out there although Arctic Silver Ceramique is their non-conductive compound incase you are afraid of getting it on other components and is basicly the same cooling.

Thanks, Asus :)

I'll check inside my computer on wednesday to make sure they'll fit in. I have to put some more USB ports in for my new keyboard (I'm using them all at the moment :p)

I think i might get the SI-120 with a nice 120mm fan and some Artic Silver 5 thermal paste.

Any more suggestions?

I love the cooler master hyper 6+, it has room for 2 100mm fans and a second helps exhaust air through the rear of your case.
