Help a N00b in Need

when i am playing HL2 and i hit ~ to go to console nothing happens. its not my keyboard does anyone know whats happening?

You have to enable the console first by typing "-console" in the launch options of hl2. You can get to the options by going Steam>Play Games> right click on Half-Life 2>Properties>Launch Options.

You need to activate console in your keyboard settings.

-> Main Menu
-> Options
-> Keyboard
-> Advanced
-> Tick 'Enable Developer mode ~'
-> OK
-> Back to game
-> Hit '~'
-> You're good to go. Now, enter any valid command in console.
