Nero wont write to my CDs, has anyone had this problem before? What's a good alternative to Nero? Thanks

um Nero works, great program too.
It's likely if Nero doesnt work, no other cd burner program will either.
Do you have it setup right in Windows?
Settings correct?
CD burner drivers installed?

Yeah, except for the drivers, I recently formatted.. can it be plug and play? Cause the only updates for my model I could find was a firmware
update.

cdr win, i believe its called, its a decent program

Make sure you have an ASPI layer installed. This could be the reason you can't burn.

If your trying to burn warez stuff use nero 5, with nero 6 they have some sort of block feature which wont let you burn certain .bin/.iso files for some reason , it will work, but not for some files

Whatever you guys in here do.. dont install and use Nero 6.0 ultra... The horrible thing with this program is that it places its temp images files in a map, and when its about to delte them its not just only deletes the files, but the whole MAP!... if your settings is to place the img files in C:.. your having a gr8 problem there....

Its a known bug.. i dont know if they've solved it yet but my buddy got he's comp almost eraesed brcause of this.. guess he wasn't carefull enouh...

Damn, thanks for the heads-up.
And ugh.. your avatar, it's disturbing, heh.

Best CDR software is 'Alcohol 120%' it burns everything perfectly.

Goes with Skunk on this. Also the problem with Nero that Fat Bob mentioned was fixed a couple updates ago.

I have also heard that Alcohol 120% and CloneCd are good as well.

I think you're a BIT TOO late with that news. Nero has had 2 updates from build 6.0.0.0 right up to 6.0.0.15 and all updates after 6000 have the bug patch fixed.

nero 6 is the latest version, it contains more optimisations and support for more media and writers. Ive never had a problem with it and ive been using it since the first ULTRA was leaked right up to now.

NERO does not need any drivers to work, it contains its own ASPI layer which only nero has exclusive access to and it interferes with NOTHING else. programs like cdrwin require an active system level aspi layer to work, this comes from adaptec and the most common and stable build is 4.6 but under XP it can cause lots of numerous problem having an aspi layer installed because the native nt scsi lbrary and atapi controllers are far more efficient. this is why xp does not have an aspi layer by default. if you are experiencing optical drive problem the first thing to check is if you have an aspi layer instaleled, some softwareinstall one without your permission, I know for sure adaptecs software does, and ImTOO DVD ripper does and a corrupt one too. you can check this using nero infotool and you can easily kill the system level aspi layer using a program called forceASPI which is a bunch of .BAT files that run teh commands to remove the aspi dll files.

IF all you want to do is burn cd images of games and such then get hold of a copy of Alcohol 120%, forget cloneCD, it's useless compared to alcohol. and get a copy of clonyXXL and alcoholer to use with it. it will image/burn any image format and does 1:1 burns/copies/images. You shoud use nero for everything else.
