Hey I'm having a problem with my computerand I'm wondering if anyone here can help me figure out whats wrong. Whenever I first turn it on its normal, shows the windows xp loading screen, but when its supposed to go to the desktop, the screen goes black, and the little light on the monitor starts blinking on and off. I think it might be a problem with the mobo, since before that i started having problems with the sound driver (i use the mobo's integrated sound), sometimes the sound driver would stop working all of the sudden and i wouldnt be able to play any music or hear any audio in movies/games. If anyone could help me id really appreciate it

BTW I'm on a different comp right now, that sucks ass, but its all i got until i can get the other one fixed

most likely something with the graphics card or screen.

try using your current screen on the "faulty" comp.

My comp did exactly the same - the gfx card was borked

Luckily i had a backup one :)

Wow, lot of replies already, I would have been surprised if there was even one. Sorry I meant to put up the specs in the 1st post but i kinda forgot as i was typing. Here they are:

AMD Athlon 2400+
Epox nforce2 mobo EP-8RDA+
Radeon 9800pro
512MB ram

ALready tried using that comp with this monitor, same thing happened. It might be the video card, I thought it might've been something to do with the output since everything else seems to work fine (loading screen, no funny noises, etc.). And sorry for being ignorant, but how do I reinstall windows if I cant get a display where I can actually do anything? Also to install or reinstall an OS, don't you have to delete the Hard Drive? I have a lot of things on it I really don't wanna lose, so I would have to have them extracted if I did that.

Also, I notice the interior was horribly dusty. I mean i know computers can get pretty dusty inside, but I've never seen one like this. I looked inside to make sure nothing had become disconnected, and i accidentally exhaled a small amount into the case, and I had to back up because I seriously couldnt breathe with all the dust that came flying out. Could this be the cause of the problem too? If the ventelation isn't good enough to prvent excess dust buildup on the hardware?

I had a similar problem (only it would only happen about 40% of the time)... it was the graphics card... (and ATi fixed the problem in the next driver!)

How about your ACPI settings in the bios? The symptoms sound almost like your comp is going into standby mode after windows loads up. Also, with all that dust you may have a ventilation problem that is causing your cpu to overheat and maybe shut down automatically. You can check your motherboard temp in the bios as well. Just some ideas...

ok ive gone to the system config and it says the ACPI is enabled, should I disable it and see what happens? Sorry if that was a dumb question, I've just never really looked into the more technical things like that

1-You should DEFINETLY dust out your case... Myself, I'm a clean freak when it comes to that stuff :)...
2-Try and boot your PC in safe mode. If that works, check what devices are disabled in device manager, specifically any that involve AGP or your video card. I had this problem when I first went from a PCI video card to an AGP one, and this worked.

Ah shit, well I just turned the damn thing on and it says the windows/system32/config/ystem file is missing so windows can't start up. Says to insert the setup CD and to press "R" when the first screen comes up to try to repair it, but the POS doesn't do anything. So it looks like im fux0rd until I can go to the computer place tomorrow and see if they can fix it. I think it may be some kind if virus. Either way I don't think that thing will be running anytime soon.

Thanx for the help anywayz

Boot to safemode and (uninstall your current driver) install a different driver either newer or older.

Uh oh...lol
GL on that one bud.
