Hello,

First off thanks for checking this thead out and hope it might benifit other people too. I just relized the other day that us as humans tend to forget things that we dont think is important enough to keep around. Some of us "Raise's hand" want to change some things but don't know just how to go about doing so. In an attempt to correct myself, ive come up with some area's that I would like to work on, but don't even know where to start. So if you could, if you know any websites containing good information or books on the following things, please just post what area the book/webpage works on and ill be sure to check it out.

-Spelling, Grammer, Sentance structure.

-Math skills.... Im in Pre Calc and these logs just piss me off. I want to start back off in like 6th grade math and hammer all these dumb equations into my head.

-Getting in shape. I went from being 300lbs down to 180lbs. Problem is, is that im so totaly out of shape that I dont even know how to start to build myself up to getting better. If I walk I feel as if im doing to little, if I jog i feel as if I just cant do it. *Sucks dont it?*
+Weight lifting- Ive tried and tried weight lifting and for somereason I never seem to be able to increse weight. I would think that im doing it wrong but I do the 2 sets of 10 every other day.

-Social skills- I am the definition of computer geek. While I may take some heat on this one, I useually perfer just sitting behind the pc instead of really doing anything else. I think the problem on this one is that THERE IS NOTHING TO DO! Its like ok.... I could go bowling? no... Movies? What is there to watch? Mall?.... ya right... lol

Those should be good for starters. I spend like 5-8 hrs a day just wasteing time. I need to get my ass from behind the PC and get on with life.

Atleast here in America, I will blame this DARN pc on 70% of my problems. If I could muster the will power to through it out the door, things would be alot better off.

When my friend told me he was trying to quit useing the pc, he also told me that he spent like 4 hrs a day reading message boards.

Well I'm in front of a computer most of the day, and I'm no where NEAR overweight. I'm not anorexic either. I hate going out because there's nothing to do, and when there is, there's always this huge gang of 10 people my age going round who actively seek to beat me up and bully me :\.

But uuhm... That's just me, nevermind.

See? Don`t need any other sites to learn spelling :P

:hmph:

Well the computer thing, i've been thinking. Most of us use the computer because we enjoy it! The only reason we want to change is because the cool kids don't do it at all and hang in clubs and bars all day long, so we think... oh I know I want to be cool tooo! So we try are hardest to quit and hang with the cool gang or whatever, whats the point?? Bugger that im considering just scrapping that crap and playing computer games as much as I bloody want

As far as grammar is concerned, the best way to improve that is to take a foreign language. If you have the oppurtunity, Latin will help your English skills greatly. If you take 3-4 years, of it, you will learn more about grammar and syntax than you did throughout the rest of your school career. You'll also learn quite a bit about how to make an argument through studying Cicero, and poetry through Catullus and Horace. Its worked for me: I got a 750 on the Verbal section of the SAT's twice, and a perfect 800 on the Writing.

I tend to balance my social life outside of the internet with the computer quite well, actually - they're not mutually exclusive, by a long shot.

Logarithims do suck, don't they? I'm in precal as well, and I'm not enjoying it. We're doing identities like cos(a-b)=cos(a)cos(b) + sin(a)sin(b) right now, and it's dull, if a bit easier than logarithims.

Well, you could start with incorrect use of possession; 'raises', not 'raise's' and 'areas', not 'area's'. Honestly though, your sentence structure is absolutely fine, and there are only a few problems with your spelling and grammar. Stick to concentrating more on your other listed problems.

Yeah but once your hooked to the computer your social skills go out the window after a while.... it depends really

I've been hooked since I was six. Ten years ago. :P

I can help you on spelling and grammar. Corrections are in bold:

For math, just be glad you aren't taking linear algebra. Nth dimensional matrix operations would fry your brain.

For weights, try to push yourself to the limit of technical failure. Your muscles should be almost about to give out like they can't do anymore on the last rep. But make sure you have a good spotter too, cause they will buckle some of the time.

Oops, you missed an apostrophe on "I'm"

:)

I spend most of my time on my computer aswell. But I thankfully have friends, both online and offline. And I am not overweight. Someone on here said the explanation was fast metabolism.

The best thing to do is looking something up if you don't know how to spell it. Even if you're in doubt, look it up! www.dictionary.com

As for grammar, you don't need to be perfect. Just make sure you don't have any run-on setences, comma splicing or double negatives. You don't need to worry yourself with stuff like who and whom, it's fading out of the English language.

Math can be a hard subject for some, that's why many hate it. For others, however, it comes naturally. What you need to do if you don't understand something is keep going over it until you do. If you're using a book read the chapters several times until you completely grasp the concept. Once you understand it do ALL of the example problems in the chapter review.

The question is, how did you lose so much weight without execise?

The best way to get into shape is to start out with aerobic level cardio execise. This could be anything that gets you within your target heart rate. How do you find out your target heart rate?

220 - your age = maximum theoretical heart rate
maximum heart rate x .70 = beginning of aerobic heart rate zone
maximum heart rate x .80 = end of aerobic heart rate zone

It is tough but you have to gradually work your way up to doing exercise at those rates for 45-60 minutes. Don't go out the first day expecting to do it for 60 minutes. Take it easy, gradually work your way up and DO NOT push yourself to the extremes of injury.

Let's say at first you can only do it for 10 minutes. The next day try to push yourself a little further, go for 11 minutes. Don't try to make a jump from 10 minutes to 20 minutes. You could even increase each day by 30 seconds. The only thing that matters is that your making progress. If you increased your time by a minute everyday you'd get to 45 minutes worth of exercise in just 35 days. If you increased your jogging time each day by 30 seconds you'd be able to jog for 45 minutes in 70 days! Not to shabby huh?

You want to be doing execise between that heart rate for 45-60 minutes a day. If you really want to get in extremely good shape you can do HIIT after you can do aerobic execises at 75%-80% of your maximum heart rate for 45 minute without being winded.

What HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) is basically training in time intervals at high heart rate %s. For HIIT you only need to be doing it for about 20-25 minutes. Remember don't do it until you're in good shape. Here's an example of an HIIT program:

2 minute warmup at 60% max heart rate
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 60%
1 minute at 90%
1 minute at 100%
3 minute cool-down at 50-60%

As for weight training you'll need to do more than 2 sets of 10 a day. Also, you really don't need to be starting weight training until you're in shape cardio-wise. But try working out 3 days a week with a day of rest inbetween each. Each day during that week work out a different part of your body. This gives each part a week of rest to recover and build muscle. Here's an example:

Monday: back, biceps
Wednesday: quads, calves, hamstrings
Friday: pecs, delts, triceps

You could use the pyramid techinque for weight training. Here's what a pyramid is:

12 reps at a light weight
increase weight
10 reps
increase weight
8 reps
increase weight
6 reps (or lift failure)
increase weight or keep the same
6 reps (or lift failure)

Take a two minute break between each weight increase. Be sure to breathe while working out. Some people hold their breath and that's not a good thing to be doing.

Here are explinations on how to do certain weight training execises:

Well, have you tried doing something socialable with people who have the same interests as you? If you like PC gaming or just gaming in general, how about going to LANs? Not only do you get to have fun playing games, you get to have it in an active social environment.

If you want something more active, look around! There are tons of things out there. For example, you could try joining a sports league of some sort or get into something different like paintball/airsoft. If you want to use real guns/bows you can get into marksmenship competitions or hunting(which isn't for me, I don't like killing stuff). Whatever you do you'll be bound to make friends IF you try. It's up to you how social you can be, you can't just sit back and expect it all to happen.

If being on the computer is something you really enjoy I wouldn't suggest completely stopping. However, I wouldn't suggest spending that much time either. Try spending about 30 minutes to an hour a night on the computer.

Good luck.
Theres a million and one things I should change, but I'm too lazy and I dont really care, doing what I enjoy.

Yeah but once your hooked to the computer your social skills go out the window after a while.... it depends really

I have spent the majority of my life on the computer, and I'm very good with people and handling conversation to my favor. I usually talk to make people laugh or be a smarty pants (which I am, thank you very much). I know a few people may think of me as a nerd or geek, well most people, but I have lots of friends and I accept that I'm never going to be the most popular kid in school. I struggle in high school, as a matter of fact. Not because the subjects are difficult, but I'm too god damn lazy to do my work and SO unorganized. I know where my faults lie and I know how to fix them (and I'd probably be a much better person), but I'm so unmotivated! Agh, it drives me crazy, knowing exactly what my problems are but unwilling to fix them. I *could* get off this damn forum and start doing my homework or working on my projects, but why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

Anyways, being a computer nerd doesn't mean your social skills go down the sink. Your social skills stink because you're just not a naturally social person, and a lot of people have to work on that area if they truly feel they should.

But don't count on automatically becoming a better person when you've got fifty friends circling around you...

concerning social skills, i'm pretty sure you have friends you get along with pretty fine. try hanging out with them and letting go of yourself, just have fun. it's harder than it seems but i think it's the only way, to let yourself go.
