Help: Game stuck, Alex isn't taking some cue and is just sitting there

I'm at the part of the game where you first get the gravity gun. The first time I played through it I managed to get the robot "dog" stuck in the merry go round when I was playing around. Not a big deal, stuff happens. So I reload from my last save point and start playing through it again. When I get to the part where she asks me to try and stack some stuff up to climb up to that ledge (before "dog") I do, and I climb up there. Then she says whatever she says when you do something right "good job" or whatever, but she just sits there. She doesn't move onto the next section no matter what I do. I've been through it half a dozen times and it always does the same thing. And to make matters worse, I don't have any save points before this part of the game. I have two save points and they're both auto saves at the very start of this when you first walk into the junk yard. I really really don't want to play through the first few hours of the game to try and get this to work again, especially since it may not even work then. If there is any way I can fix this or get around this part of the game please tell me.

I think if I could get a save somewhere before this point it might work, so if anyone has a save somewhere before this let me know.
