Help!!! I need a new gfx card

Im worried at the moment coz i have a Nvidia Geforce 5900Ultra and dont know whether or not it will run HL2 properly. Ive been looking at new cards like the X800XT PE and Nvidia 6800Ultra but im gettin confused because everywhere i look they have different benchmark results. My system specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16 GHz
1Gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 5900Ultra

I also am worried whether or not my monitor can handle the higher resolutions such as 1600. When I look at the list of resolutions available on CS:S it only goes up to 1280x1024(LCD). Does this mean that my monitor cannot handle high resolutions? If it does then i would be more inclined to go for the Nvidia Geforce 6800Ultra because they work better at lower resolutions according to www.firingsquad.com
Anyways i would like your advice coz im comfused with all this stuff

It will run hl2 just fine. Your just wasting money if your going to spend 500 bucks to upgrade from that. Your comp kicks ass dude, relax.

Your 5900Ultra will play HL2 fine as far as frame rate but in DX8. It's personally preference but I would recommend you wait til you play HL2.

If you want to get new card I wouldn't get the top end cards for your PC. I would suggest the X800Pro or 6800GT. I don't think you would get the full use out of the X800XT and 6800Ultra cards, especially at lower resolution.

lol k. But in CS:S i can run my gfx card with Dx9 coz all u do is put mat_leveldx 9.0 in and it changes it. I think thats the command anyways. But yeah now its always on dx9.

Actually that does not work for FX cards.
Create a shortcut to CSS then you can use the command line "-dxlevel 90" at the end of the shortcut target.
