this is one knife that means business. great for camping trips.

I have 2 knifes from cold steel. They make some quality shit. Just go with a good material for what use you have planed.
Edit: The SRK is a great Survival knife. I don't have one myself, but I might get one soon.
Edit 2: Man not sure if that's such a good demonstration video. That guy is ****ing reckless.

you call that a knife? that's not a knife, THIS is a knife:

SRK? which one is this...the hunting knifes

ok, those dude might be idiots for doing it so recklessly, but the knife holds it's own, you have to admit that.

things is, the bushmaster is dirty cheap.

edit: a knife i could eat soup with...go on sir

I was on a plane yesterday and the guy ahead of me in security had a swiss army knive, some scissors and a big screwdriver in his bag. What a wanker, they found it and made him throw them all alway.

Survival and rescue knife.
ColdSteelSRK1.jpg
The Bushman, is a good one though. If you don't want to spend to much. Also the SK-5 Steel is easy to sharpen on the spot.

the only knife you'll ever need:

good for field dressing a camel/beheading infidels

Khukuri's are ****ing nice. I used to spar with one. Just awesome. So much fun. I wish i had 2.

well, hello there Gabe Newell

...someone on this thread is Gabe

What the Khukuri? I don't have one myself. The one I trained with , had the grip form with the steel though, and was sweet as hell. But it was blunt, so we didn't kill each other.

Edit: I guess your talking about the SRK
Edit: I became unsure now, so i googled, and one source says full tang, another says not. I'll get back to you.

the one I have could probably separate your head from your body with not a hell of a lot of force. it's pretty blade heavy and sharp as hell

So I checked at a knife forum, they advice against the SRK as a bushcraft knife.
If you want to pay some money though, you can check out Fallkniven, made out of VG10, that's a very high quality stainless steal from japan I think. I know alot of Spyderco's knifes are made from it.
fn13k.jpg
Kinda looks the same. But it's like $90. Depending on where you get it I guess.

stainless...that's hard to field sharpen. most survivalist recommend carbon steel.

i'll check these out, but by far the bushmaster impressed me the most. sheer simplicity and quality.

I kinda got the urge to post my knifes here. I think the Böker is my favorite. It's the one at the top. Then the Hibben throwing knifes are just pure fun. I thought I had to add "the only knife you'll ever need" just for the hell of it.

Edit: I have no doubt the bushmaster will preform exellent, also it's not overly expensive. If anything this thread has made me want one. I just think it's awesome to discuss knifes on internet forum :p

Edit 2: VG10 - VG-10 is a unique formulation of steel with a high carbon content, and containing various amounts of one or more of the following: Chromium, Vanadium, Molybdenum and Cobalt.
But it's still like $50 more expensive then the Bushmaster.

nice collection you got there. throwing knives are really fun...i once won a beer competing with my neighbor.

i think that a heavy duty knife would get bettered really badly so if you can get something that'll do the job and be very inexpensive.

if i'd accidentally trash a 150$ knife i'd be pretty sad and i'd probably never dared to hit it with a steel hammer like that guy. but for 20$...bring it on.

the only thing that bothers me is the lack of a proper finger guard, but if i buy it i'll put some cord on it.

a side note...i used to forge knives, was pretty decent at it too. but that was so long ago i forgot alot of the trade. might get into it again these days. nothing better than to work steel beside a forge and snow on the outside.

Sounds awesome. I tried some designing, but I know nothing of forging. I did make some palmsticks though, I keep them around here somewhere. They are pretty sweet. But you can't really do anything creative with them.

Leatherman = Superior to all of your shit.

knife making is actually not that complex as it seems...if you don't plan to forge, then just get some desired sheet metal, a heavy duty grinder (a belt grinder is the best) and that's it...as far as equipment goes. then you just need to practice.

Yeah. Well I might try that some time. I do work in construction so that should be accessible enough.

Have a look at the Gerber sheath knives as well. Their steel isn't as hard as it was years ago, but their ergonomics and build quality is hard to beat. I thought about a Big Rock, but I figured I didn't really need one. I just like their 'Gator Grip' texture I have on my Gator pocketknife, the stuff does not slip. I've had dirt, water, and mud get in the way and it still won't slip in my hand.

As to multitools I find Leatherman lacking in ease of use. Their tools stick a lot on the hinges. My Flik can be operated entirely with one hand. It also has scissors, and not the tiny "cutting threads and trimming fingernails" scissors that Victorinox has, they are some solid-ass scissors that I use almost more than the knife.

I have a machete, but I'm too lazy to sharpen it so it's really just a piece of 1/16" sheetmetal with a nylon handle bolted on. I've got a sword I found in the school welding shop, but I put the edge on that with a metal grinder. :|

that makes me want to thrust it into somebody's stomach...sexy
buwahaha! That's actually the purpose of the saw on the top of the knife. It's designed to slip in between ribs, then when you twist and pull it out, the saw on the top will inflict ever more damage to the bones.

Erm, did it actually say this was the purpose?
I find that a bit hard to believe because of how impractical that is. Usually the serration on the top of hunting blades is meant to lock in and pull entrails out.

If it was meant to be twisted and damage bones..... I just can't see how that would be useful really, it would just get caught up on a bone and you'd have a tough ass time pulling it out while you're trying to kill something.

i think that's more of a gimmick than anything else.

The Kukri is Nepalese knife used by Royal Ghurkas and Australian snipers, that camel/infidels reference doesn't make much sense...

Anyway, my choice for survivalist-combat knife would be definitely something from SOG company, I'm really pleased with their products...
Maybe SEAL 2000?

Ugh. I was gonna make that exact same post.

I'm turning into Stern.

I'm Stern... I'm STERN.

I'M CPTSTERN!

I am not a royal ghurka nor am I an australian sniper. therefore your point is invalid :E

Raziaar: you're nowhere near as handsome as I am

I also have $29 to spend! Get something more expensive.

that doesn't mean i should spend it on something that's not worth it.

if i can get the same result from 30$ why spend five times more, because it's prettier? hah

Dude, you're into camel hunting and destroying infidels?

We should get together sometime.
