Help me get out of a speeding ticket

I am positive that no one here has NEVER gone over the speed limit especially when going down hills or driving with the flow of traffic.

That "NEVER" in thate sentence confused the shit out of me for a long time. I dont know why.

To think that the law says that you can speed to pass someone is retarded. Drop out of law school and go to clown college, because you are just that, a clown.

Pay the damn fine, and move on with your life. Maybe you'll learn to follow the law, as they are there to protect you and everybody else unfortunate enough to be around you...

Aha, Glirk djeint said in court, as a spark of genius flashed, his eyes lit up and a smile growing on his face. "Speed is relative to the observer!"
:D

Silence.
Cut to Glirk Dient being dragged into a police van.

Yep, I am going to law school. Idiot. Are you? Apparently not because you have no idea what your talking about.

http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/laws.html

That site talks about 2 states where you are allowed to exceed the speed limit while passing. I have heard Minnesota has recently passed or is working on a similar law but cannot find it. Next time if your going to try and be a dick, know what your talking about.

Were you overtaking someone at the time? Probably not, otherwise you would have stated that. Stop thinking the police are totally incompetent and get over the fact that you got caught breaking the law and have to pay up.

Yeah we all break the law and most of the time we get away with it, but don't complain when you get caught because "everyone else was doing it".

Grow up and get over it.

I am not whining saying how unfair it was that I was caught. I am simply asking for legal advice if anyone here is competant enough. I want to try and get out of it because there is absolutely no harm in excersizing my rights and hoping I get lucky.

Are you 12? Take my liscnese because I was driving just as fast as other people around me? A hazard to myself and those around me? Driving in your comfort zone is often advised. Drive the minimum speed limit on 1 lane roads and see how safe it is.

You don't seem in much of a position to talk, do you even drive? I know the rules well and I am positive that no one here has NEVER gone over the speed limit especially when going down hills or driving with the flow of traffic. In my area people usually drive 10-20 over all speed limits and 20-30 over on the highways. Don't talk so condescendingly when your going to be that ignorant.
The fact that "everyone around me" was going the same speed isn't an excuse.

I'm not saying that I am a better driver than you or anything, and I'll probably get cought myself while speeding at some point in my life, but when it happens one should just suck it up and pay the bills, as you yourself but you in the position.

<3?

I understand what you mean. To a cop that excuse doesn't work. However it is safe to say that people will drive the same speed limit as the group of cars that they are in. It is called the social cognitive theory if you have ever taken psychology.

I will pay it if that is what it comes to but I am not going to bend over the table and pay it when I have other options. This ticket is more than just the money or it going on my record. I simply don't want my parents to find out as that will be a lot worse than the money I will be losing.

Because you have a good sense of grammar. It should be 'ever', not 'never'.

If you could reroute a huge asteroid to hit earth then build a ship to deliver a missle the destroy it leaving your hot daughter behind I bet after you save the world you would still be required to pay the ticket so you probably better pay it.

Hmm maybe. I think it changes the meaning of the sentence though.

I think it should be "I am positive that no one here hasn't gone over the speed limit, especially when going down hills".

That sounds a lot better as the words "never" and "ever" both change the meaning and make it confusing.

I may be a dick, but Im also a college student working full time to pay off a car, and Ive had to pay for two tickets, and I havent complained a bit.

Everybody thinks they can beat a ticket by hoping the cop wont show up in court or find some obscure law where, if your pig is riding in your carriage with you, you may pass a vehicle without a pig (c. 1884)

What is the problem with you people? Ridiculous arrogance.

If he can get out of it then he should. There's nothing wrong with that. He's not crying about having to pay it, he's asking for advice, not your moral opinion. You don't have to shut up and take things lying down.

As for my advice ... you should really investigate how it works in your county. If there's a moderate chance you can get it dropped then go for it, but you don't want to wind up with court fees added to your already expensive ticket. I get the feeling that the "cop never shows up" theory is largely an urban legend, so if you do decide to take it to court I'd suggest you have a halfway decent argument ready to present.

Yeah I am going to try and find a reasonable argument. An interesting one to try and use would be to argue that I am not guilty due to the fact I wasn't mentally aware at the time that I was speeding. I would say that I was flowing with traffic and zoned out and find psycholgical studies about zoning out while driving and not being aware of your speeding. Would be very cool if it works but I doubt that it would. Just a different approach i would want to try.

P.S. thanks for being the only one to understand me in this thread.

lol, how would that help?

Court: "You were speeding. Whats your excuse?"

You: "I wasnt paying attention while I was driving."

Court: "You obviously arnt fit to be driving then, if you loose concentration that easily... I am going to suspend your drivers license in addition to requiring you to pay the ticket. Have a nice day."

Not if I bring studies that prove people naturally zone out while driving in a group like that meaning I wasn't consciously speeding, just merely driving which proves I didn't have the intention to speed. I didn't say that it would work I would say that it would be interesting to see if it would.

Just pay the ticket.

Thread over

Sorry you haven't gotten a ticket so you musn't know what it's like. It isn't just pay the ticket and everything is hunky dory again. It messes up your insurance and stays on your record. It is a pretty serious thing to get. It can keep you out of military service too, which I have been considering. So I don't think I am going to bend over and take it.

And you are making it all crazy sounding.

Big deal. You pay another $20 a month for insurance and it only stays on your record for 5 years...

Its not serious. Its a friggin misdemeanor. Now, if you were to hit a car or house and then run, then it'd be a big thing...

The only thing that will keep you out of the military is having a missing limb. Hell, options for bigger criminals are Juvey, fines OR military service...

Such a drama queen (king? maybe.)

I know. Ive gotten 2. First one was knocked down to driving defective vehicle, since it was my first offense.

I have done a lot of research. LIDAR is a very inaccurate form of measurement. It judges light and sends pulses to judge the distance of that light. It is meant for mostly a straight line, variations off set it as the object will be seen moving faster. The cop measured it while I was going around a bend, down a hill and right past him. The part going right past him will off set it the most and make the LIDAR read my speed as going faster than I actually was. I now have a case.

Doubtful, I would have thought they would have taken that into account. Also the reason some of us might be pissed off by you trying to get out of this is the fact I know someone close to me has been hit by a speeding driver, which would have most likely never have happened had they been driving at the limit.

The limit is there for a reason and should be stuck to.

I very much doubt that would work, because driving offences are probably strict liability in America just like they are here.

I just now noticed the fine amount...

Come on, it's just $150.

Add the extra 30 a month for 5 years thats 30x60 which is 1800 which means this ticket is closer to 2 grand. Also I have prepared my defense and it does not involve me zoning out. I am pretty positive that I am going to win if both cops do show up.

Just pay the money, fighting it may just piss that officer off...then you are really landed in it;)

I know I never really care much about those who argue my judgement.

If you know how serious it is, why would you ever go past the speed limit?

This thread is still alive? Damn I thought it was made clear allready that you can't get out of the ticket, and even if you could it wouldn't be right. (Unless you were being chased by an axe murderer going after you at 300 mph. Then I would almost understand why you were speeding)

Actually I can get out of it and the way the cops were using the LIDAR is not how you are supposed to use it so that could easily have thrown the readin off. What about that is so immoral/impossible?

If the readin was off and you weren't actually speeding then yeah, there's nothing wrong with getting out of the ticket. But wouldn't it be easier to just pay the ticket?

I got a speeding ticket, going 55 in a 35, and my insurance went up 4 bucks...\=

So you are saying my story of the cops incorrectly using their LIDAR is made up when I can prove it? Interesting.

You can't prove it.
Got any proper evidence you could submit in court? a report of how exactly the particular LIDAR they used was used incorrectly, other then your own word?

How about math that proves the angle(me going around a bend) and my car passing them throws off the distance readins compared to straight on. I have done my homework.
