Can someone post a vid or something that might make me like this game....i have it but it sits on my desk....i keep trying to play it but i get bored

Sell it on ebay and buy Morrowind, it's better in almost every way.

He's completely right. Other than the graphics, most of the things in Oblivion were done wrong. I really hate the scaling system with a passion.

Yes, Morrowind had better combat, a better journal system, and a better quest-tracking system. The quests were deeper, the soundtrack was better, and the world was more immersive and involving.

Oh wait...

Morrowinds journal system WAS better, the only things I'd change from Oblivion to Morrowind are the graphics, and combat.. The soundtrack was ruined in Oblivion, they tried to make it more deep, but the Morrowind version of the theme is WAAAAAY better, the world was way god damn more involving, for sure.

The quest tracking in Oblivion was a bit better, but it's more realistic in Morrowind, it's like you wrote it down, instead of picking it from a menu to put a friggin marker on the map..

Storyline in Morrowind is better than Oblivion, the only problem is the length of the quests, alot of the fetch quests were hella boring..

They also messed up the creatures, you'd think your on earth with all the non-human races being aliens... Wolves, dear and such aren't supposed to be on Nirn (Planet of Elder Scrolls), there are supposed to be Nix Hounds, Scrib, Kagouti, and in the mines there are supposed to be Kwama Workers, Kwama Foragers, Kwama Warriors, and Kwama Queens... they screwed it by trying to make it realistic, it would've felt much more like another planet (the way it was supposed to) if they didn't try to make it realistic..

They also messed up the skills, in Morrowind you'd pick short blade, or long blade, in Oblivion it's just blade, making daggers useless... The fatiguing system in Oblivion is better, but thats nothing compared ot the skill system of Morrowind, in Morrowind if you gained a level in a skill, youd notice the difference of even 1 skill point, in oblivion, your just trying to get to 25, 50, 75, 100... the in-betweens are pointless..

So In conclusion - Pros and Cons of both games, the Pros of Morrowind out wiegh Oblivion by 30 tonnes.. and the Cons of Oblivion out weigh Morrowind by the same...

Oblivion is still an amazing game, but it's like with Deus Ex, people hate the 2nd one because it wasn't as good as the previous game, but if Deus Ex 1 never existed and they made the Deus Ex 2 game, then people would think Deus Ex 2 is a really good game.. same principal with The Elder Scrolls 3, and 4.. If Morrowind never existed, and they just made Oblivion, Oblivion would be considered a better game than it already is, no doubt.

I stopped playing Morrowind because I got sick of running around a large confusing village to find some weird guy I had to deliver a package too. The quest-tracking system in Oblivion was a dream come true, for me.

That's the point, your supposed to talk to people, it forces you to talk to people, adding to the realism, you had to go to a corner club, and ask the owner where he lives.. The questing in Oblivion, on the other hand, makes it so talking to people is pointless, you just follow a little arrow of your compass... A monkey could do it, I say, A MONKEY!

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. When I found out that they implemented a marker system, I got pretty annoyed and the quick travel just made me depressed. The whole point of the series is to feel like you're in a virtual world and with the changes that they made, it feels much less of a virtual world.

It's pretty obvious a lot of decisions were made in an attempt to appeal to a more casual player, which is fine if that's what Bethesda wants.

So you stopped playing it before you even completed the first quest? :O  LOL

Yes Tyguy, sell Oblvion on Amazon, and buy Morrowind, its a MUCH deeper, more interesting and satisfying game.

I got bored with Oblivion even before I got out of the castle with the king. I maybe completed 3 or 4 quests that it is. I never really was much into it from the start. Just making the character was a everlasting project. The game was just really starting to annoy. I don't know what you want to make you like the game because truthfully I don't think there is anything out there that would make someone like the game. It is just something that you other like or dislike.

Oblivion > Morrowind
The only problem with Oblivion is the soundtrack and the fast traveling, but im having much fun with Oblivion than Morrowind.

Get those mods, look up others, and everything these people have said about oblivion will be fixed.

Great find, I might start Oblivion again, I only played it for the first month then got bored to death with it.

Delete my characters, download all these mods and have some fun! Cool stuff. :E

Try getting involved with some side quests or something. I got pretty bored with the main quest pretty quickly, but there is so much else to do and see that it can really keep you busy for a while, esp. with the character customization. Good stuff and I personally love the soundtrack. :D

:

No, I had about 10-20-ish hours on my file, counting sidequests and screwing around. I was on the part in the main quest where I had to go to this village which was basically one large maze of a building, and I just couldn't find the guy, so I stopped there.

LMAO, the city is like 10ft X 10ft... and if you think that was a maze, god help you in real life.

He is probably talking about Vivec, it's really confusing, and he was probably looking for the guy who gives him info on the Neravarine.. It took me like 1 hour the first time through to find the guy in that damn maze of a city...

Shut up, jackass.

And yes, the last poster was right, it was Vivec IIRC.

If Oblivion bores you, then you have no hope with Morrowind, in my opinion.

Hey, everything I said was true. I lmao-ed at the fact that you cant even navigate a small video game town... and you will need help in real life if you ever need to navigate a real city.

Its people like you who made oblivion worse than it could have been. The developers noticed that a bunch of people got lost on the first mission so they dumbed it down to idiot levels.

I HATE YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO OBLIVION.

Yes, I ruined the Elder Scrolls series. It was all me. I planned it, I sent Bethesda death notes with anthrax, and took the lead designer's son and daughter for ransom until he promised to make a map system

And for the record, I've live in a city, and I get around fine, thanks.

Not you.. People LIKE you... Whining about navigation and complexity. I'm not saying your whining about comlexity, but you are about navigation..

i just hated the combat system in Morrowind. I tried playing it about 10 times throughout the course of a year and the fact that your guy can't hit something right onfront of him with a large blade just turned me off. I love Oblivion, not only because of the fast-travelling (Because if you people were smart, then you would realize that the same fast-travelling system was in Daggerfall.) or the Compass marker, but just because I thought it was such an immersive game. Hell, I'm going to go play it right now!

Man, here's the latest terrific reason!!

The Polymorph Mod.

You know, Oblivion WILL be good ...in about 2 years when theres a few hundred user mods doing what the devs could never do - create a decent RPG

After a little while I had more or less the same reaction to Oblivion as the OP. Once the glean of the engine wears off there isn't a whole lot there.

I was bothered by the fact that I didn't see how awful Oblivion's combat is mentioned in a single review. It is worse than Morrowind's because it makes you work while still being entirely void of complexity. Think Diablo II but where you have to hold the right mouse button for several seconds before actually attacking. WHAT FUN!

Actually, going back and reading some of the reviews for Oblivion makes you wonder exactly how long the person spent actually playing the game before writing it. Many make no mention of the scaling system (or simply not enough). Oblivion's engine is praised but its sheer artistic mediocrity is never mentioned. The fact that leveling up through non-combat means makes the game unplayable is never mentioned, either. All I saw before making my purchase was "Best RPG ever made". No, no, no, no. In no way shape or form is Oblivion the best RPG ever made. The best RPG released during March of 2006, perhaps.

They also messed up the creatures, you'd think your on earth with all the non-human races being aliens... Nix hounds and kwama critters are certainly NOT meant to be in Cyrodil. You will notice that Vvardanfell is a totally separate island to the rest of Tamriel, which would explain why non of the creatures found in Vvardenfell are found in Cyrodil. However you will still find all the summonable creatures in Cyrodil, as they are native to no place in particular (save Oblivion)

Cyrodil and southern Tamriel are more like Temperate Earth environments anyway, and it would make sense for them to support life exceedingly similar to our own. You would also notice that Bethenda had more 'temperate' magical creatures as well, such as trolls.

But yeah... sry if that seemed like a rant... but their non-inclusion of non-vvardenfell creatures makes a lot of sense to me...

So, your telling me it is 3E 346 (I think), thats 3346 years they've lived in Tamriel, coming over from Akavir, and they havn't even brought over 1 nix hound/kwama critter from Morrowind. Sounds like a load of shit to me.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. When I found out that they implemented a marker system, I got pretty annoyed and the quick travel just made me depressed.

While the marker system is trivial (there is a way to not use it) the fast travel complaint makes no sense. Why get depressed over an option you don't ever have to use? When I see people complain about fast travel I get the feeling they are more upset that other people are using it than anything else.

As far the marker system, you can complete quests without using markers by not making it you active quest. However, this is an annoying way to not use the marker so I can understand your frustration there.

It's to target a more mainstream audience. If you don't like it mod it, Morrowind without mods isn't too fantastic imo.
