I can't take it!

First of all, I think it is awfull that all this HL2 stuff was leaked and I am certainly against it. I have been trying to ignore screenshots and spoilers and stuff but now I have a problem.

I am a total n00b when it comes to hacks and coding and stuff, but a guy from school is _offering_ me some, let's say, extremely interesing stuff.

I can not deny I am certainly curious, though I know it is wrong. And it feels a bit like opening my birthday presents before it's my birthday (if you know what i mean).

Help me resist! Let me see that it is better to wait for the official release!

Something to think about...
The people who have compiled and created this "beta" of HL2 "for the oppressed masses" are the same people who used trojan's and key trackers on VALVe.

VALVe with their virus scanner and IT dept didn't find them until it was too late, what makes you think that this "beta" isn't infected? hmmmm.

"No... they wouldn't do that to us" "We're true HL2 believers, these robinhoods of the internet would never infect our computers.... just the computers of huge corporations and such.

Pfffft... those of you who download this "beta" better beware!

I think now a logical thing for Valve to do is release a demo of some of the E3 levels to give the community something to do while they wait. It would also make a lot leess people want to download the leak. Just my opinion.

Metatron, lol, the only reason HL2.net is so anal about beta materials is because of legal issues. $10 says that all the righteous Administrators and Mods are trying to get a copy of the beta just as hard as anyone else around here.

You've got a point there...

Installing some uge thing could easily contain some nasty trojans and virusus costum created by those ****ers who got it in the first place.

But you know that feeling, when everybody in school is doing it, you don't want to be behind if you know what i mean. Tuff choices. And know I've read it could be delayed to April! I just might install a seperate pc just for this.

Fockit, i dunno what to do.

I know how you feel, part of me would like to download this "beta" , but I know that if I do I will end up being disappointed and frustrated.

In this instance it would be better to wait for the real deal. In the end I'm sure that valve will probably add some code to read your registry keys to see if the leaked source was installed on your comp. (just speculation, but paranoia has no limits

)

I have not downloaded the source. Nor do I intend to download the a pre-release beta. I consider it good manners not to, as we represent the largest HL2 community on the net.
Unlike many that do download it, I would actually have a reason as I'm a modder with my own mod (plus I'm a coder), and is VERY interested in looking how it is built up, so one can mod it. But I still wont download it.

Downloading it is pure disrespect for Valve. You would think the general HL2 community holds *some* respect for them, but obviously most dont.

Well said, dawdler. But I think your argument is going to fall on deaf ears with most of this lot. If the posts made in this forum over the last three hours are any indicator of intelligence, we're dealing with room temperature IQ here. The main forum page is a sea of garbage. And the people that try to post sensible replies are either spammed or flamed.

To think that Valve has bent over backwards litstning and replying to a lot of these jerks' emails (even the ridiculous ones) and then to read crap here like "The Valve Conspiracy: Gabe leaked the Source!!!" blows my mind. God love you Mods... you've certainly got your hands full.
