i installed the theme that mr. mats made. the logon screen and the desktop worked fine. but when i went to change the system load screen, i followed the instructions, and backed up the original file to a different folder then i overwright it with the one in the theme pack. i TRYED to reboot but my system it wont. any ideas on how to fix this would be very nice!

When you say it won't reboot do you mean it won't shut down once you're in windows? Or does it get out of windows, but not turn on again. Or does it get out of windows, come back on and then not get into windows? If the computer itself still comes on then hit f8 just before it starts the very first windows load screen. When the list pops up pick "safe mode" and re-copy the backup to whatever it was you over-wrote. If you can get into regular windows but don't see a login screen just hit CTRL+Alt+Del twice and it should pop up a 2k style login box, type in your name/pass and you should be able to get back into windows. Good luck! -Noodly

Where and when did you download the theme from? This is very important as I accidentally released a logon screen that was bugged (so sorry) but it was only out for like a couple of hours before I fixed it.

To fix the problem, you must restore the backup ntoskrnl.exe file by replacing it with the bugged one in the system32 folder. You can fix this (as I found) by either booting to an alternate hard drive with a compatable OS installed on it, or by booting to safe mode or pure dos (using a startup disk), and fixing the problem there.

I am so sorry for the trouble caused, but editing the boot screen is a very complex process (I do not suggest that an amateur attempt it) and being only human I made a mistake. It was fixed, but it seems you were one of the unlucky ones who grabbed the bugged version.

If all else fails reinstall windows (try doing it in a different partition of your hard drive, by booting to the cd-rom drive by pressing F11 at startup or changing the boot process in your bios.) Then use that new OS to fix the problem of the old OS, after which you can uninstall it.

Hope that helps!

sorry for not posting for awhile (i was at grandmas) but i just used the system restore point i made right befor i rebooted to restore my files. (i ALWAYS make one when messing with os files)

I'm glad it's fixed then.

No one should worry about this for any present downloads of the theme, as long as you follow the instructions carefully you'll be fine.

i had the same problem, Widnows wouldnt start with a blue screen error, so i popped in the windows xp disc and cleared everything up
i needed to delete the partition anyway too much junk on it
