Help my girlf, i can't

My lovely lady has managed to develop a computer problem which will allow her to only connect to things like internet backgammon and messenger but will not allow a ny browser to surf the net. What do we think has gone wrong?

What internet connection does she have? Is it from a Uni?

I'm betting she either has Norton, or Zone alarm pro? I have had experience of both these bits of software seemingly "deciding" to stop allowing various things to access the net for no apparent reason. Tell her to try disabling whatever firewall software she has, and see if the prob persists.

If you're using firefox, make sure she hasn't set it to use a proxy. Goto:
Tools > Options > General tab > Connection Settings > Make sure "Direct Connection to the Internet" is selected, unless of course you're running behind a proxy anyway.
Other than that, not sure apart from the other options above.

She is using someone like wanadoo, nothing to do with uni. The firewall suggestion is possibly a good idea along with the disabling of any of those norton virus creators. The proxy thing I shall check out.

I'm not with her at the mo so i'll follow up when I can actually poke around with the comp and use this forum at the same time. Thanks for the help so far guys, you rock x
