Hi everyone, I just bought a marvellous 6600GT AGP 8
I put it in the slot blabla got off my old ATI card
Incered the CD sparke "smartinstall"
Installed the Video Card successfully
Rebooted my computer
AND WHEN I WENT IN MY SESSION A NVIDIA WINDOW OPENED AND SAID I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ALIMENTATION OF THE CARD!!!!!!!!!! :frown:
So i tried the FPS test in CSS it gave me 7.73fps!!!!!
On the box it said 300W required..how can i know the number of W in my PC? :bonce:
My specs are: 3.00Ghz 512DDRAM 160Go

Hope you can help me....

uninstall your ati drivers. get the latest drivers off nvidias website.

ive got a 6600 gt and a 300w psu, but im gona get a new 550w psu cos im getting a few crashes since i put the card in. my 6600 gt is an overclocked one as standard and needs a minimum 350 psu apparently.

just try uninstalling your ati drivers and get the latest drivers from nvidia, the ones on the cd in the box are probably old

edit: you could always open the case and read the side of the psu, it might say on the back of the psu as well what wattage it is(i.e. you may not have to open the case

I downloaded 66.93 and removed everything from ATI
Changed nothing....How can i know the Wats in my power
supply!?

edit: okay ill look ...;where is the psu?

open case...read sticker on psu

edit: right at the back in the top of the case. the thing with all the wires coming out it. dont electrocute/blow yourself up

It says i have 280W...dam i need 300W
What should i do?

well mine says i need a 350, and ive gota 300. im gona replace mine, but not cos ive got low fps, im replacing cos ive got some crashing problems in general use. changing your psu would be a good idea but it may not fix your fps problem.

helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp i have only a few days to send it back and get my money...

well if you jst send the card back your gona have to stay with the current set up you have permanently, cos all the new cards require more power. my 6600 gt takes power from the agp socket and from a power supply cable directly, just like a harddrive. just sending the card back is a pretty stupid solution. unless your lack of fps is down to a faulty card

power supply cable...hum i think i have it in my hand
Is it supposed to go right next to the cable that connects the video card to the screen? If yes from where to where should it be connected?
Omfg ivle 20W missing

ok ok. inside the case on my computer there are little power cables coming from the psu in the back of the case that go into the back of the harddrives, cd drives and now my graphics card as it requires one to run. its a white sorta socket about an inch wide and half an inch deep with beveled edges so it can only fit into power sockets one way. dude have you got a manual with the card. read it before you screw up your computer

edit: and dont mess with your power supply while your pc is on. your gona fry your computer or yourself

lol im not that dumb is it hard to do everything u just said?

no its not. justread the graphics card manual. it should say exactly how to do everything. weve both got the same type of card so it should be identical to install it. find a spare power/molex cable (the white ones that are also plugged into the back of your harddrive and cd/dvd drives) and plug one into the grphics card. my gfx card board had this connector right on the far side of the board. i.e. i had the dvi and svga sockets the go to the monitor at one end of the board(poking outa the case obviously) and the power socket at the other (inside the case)

lol well my manual is REALY bad it says nothing at all on problems...

forget the problems section of your manual. if you havnt plugged in the extra power cable the the card requires then you havnt even installed the card properly yet. you dont seem to know if you have at all so you most likely havnt yet. read the section on physically putting the card in

okay i have this cable that came with the vid card and its black flat at the top and curve at the bottom, it can go in the plu right next to the connecton between screen and video card..is it the power supply cable?

no mate. thats for video inputs and stuff. did you actually install the grahics card yourself or have you just bought a machine with it in. im struggling to explain this anymore simply to you.

I bought my PC one year ago and decided to buy a new vid card because my 9600SE was realy bad
I plugged the 6600GT i think pretty well and it seems fine
I launched the PC and it said it found a new peripherik so i installed it
I inserted the driver CD
I downloaded the latest driver

clicky

edit: make sure you plugged in the extra power cable the gfx card requires. update drivers, update motherboard drivers, get rid of ATi drivers

Okay sorry but it's to complicated for my knowledge i think i should send back the card...wat card works with 280W? 9800?

i guess yeah. why dont you just get somebody who knows how to do it to set it up for you. a 9800 is last years hardware

Don't return the card. The 6600gt will blow a 9800pro out of the water. And anyway, you'll still need a 300watt psu to run a 9800pro.

Ok, so it seems like you've done everything BUT plugging in the molex connectors for your card.

Find an unused male connector

male molex

And stick in inside of the female connector on your gfx card

female molex

Now, your gfx card should run OK like this. I'm running a 9800pro on 280 watts so don't worry. It might get held back ABIT though.
