Help needed!

I just re-installed HL2 after 6 months of not playing due to lack of storage remaining. The installation went fine, and i updated it all perfectly, but when i go into it it crashes back to Steam, no error message or anything (this happens when it says 'loading' before the title screen). If anyone has encountered this problem before and can offer any help it would be much appreciated.

OS: Windows XP Pro
Processor: Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz
Memory: 512 MB RAM
DirectX: 9.0c
Graphics Card: Radeon 9600
Graph. card memory: 256.0 MB
Resolution: 1280x1024
Driver: 6.14.0010.6575

I think i did that right :p, well if i didnt please correct me.
 
i dont have ATI so if im wrong....ignore me

it looks like you have 6.14 driver or something, make sure you have the latest ATI drtivers. could help
 
Yeah, i just installed the new driver before i posted that.....does anyone else have any ideas?!
 
Does anyone know how to change my settings on Norton Anti-Virus so that i can allow and disallow programs from connecting to the internet?

Is he advertising? Ban?

As for Angus, I don't think it's Norton. If you are having problems with Norton disallowing your Steam/HL2 from accessing the internet, just right click on the icon at the toolbar and select 'Disable Norton' or whatever it says for your particular breed of antivirus.

Not sure if that'll fix it, but that's happend to me before at it magically fixed itself. You may want to consider reinstalling if disabling Norton doesn't fix it. Hope that helps.

Well, at the moment, I am might ****ing angry :)sniper: ). I just re-installed it, updated it, and its still not working! That got me thinking that it might be my system, but i am inside the minimum requirements, let alone the reccomended! So i really don't know what to do. If anyone knows the address that i can e-mail for VALVe support please post it here, because i cannot find it.
 
go to steams official site at www.steampowered.com , then go to eighter support or to the forums, I'm sure someone else have had that problem and remember how they fixed it over there.

angus, if you have Norton Internet Security or Personal Firewall, they might be an issue, but not AntiVirus.

Disabling a protection service is never a good long term solution. It's a big bad Internet out there...
