Ok I go to run my map. I go file>Run. The map begins to compile. Perfect! no leaks! no errors. thats not my problem. Game loads up- Oh, can't find test.bsp error! So no prob, i take the compiled bsp out of the source sdk under steamapps>myemail and throw it into halflfie2 deathmatch. Hey my map works! But wait, why doesent the stupid thing get my map running when i compile it. I have bsp run on... the game loads up but says it cant find the map . I have to manually drag the bsp into maps of hl2 dm game. Usually like old hammer- you could just click run and it will load up the map. Mine dosen't work with halflife2. Is there an option i need to change?

Well thats the way I have to do it too...If you want the maps to be in a diff directory i suppose you could change the option where it puts the maps... Only thing is you'll end up with all the crap map files that you dont actually need to run the map - to edit you just need the .vmf file and to play, the .bsp file...you will end up with all sorts of attachments which isnt handy if you have a lot or you need to upload or something..

If you just have the 2 map windows open its fine and just ALT-Tab HL2 to make it quicker to access. Just be sure to disconnect from multiplayer session so you can edit the files and move files...

Tools>Options>Build Programs>"Place compiled maps in this directory before running the game:"
Should auto copy your map to the right folder.

Just make sure you have the right configuration selected (something I missed for a while)
