help please - Console wont work for me.

Hi.
I decided to use the console just to mess around with my game a bit for fun. I went to options, then keyboard, then advanced and ticked Set Console.

I then went back to my game and hit the ~ key (which on my keyboard is set to the key left of 1 if that makes any difference)

Then i typed in impulse 101 and went back to the game, but i had no new weapons. i tried god next but noticed no difference. Then i typed Buddha and it said Buddha mode on but i noticed nothing else. Then i typed notarget but enemies still attacked me.

I typed in dfguj to see if my codes were wrong and the console said "Unknown Code: dfguj" So i think that rules out me spelling wrong because my other codes did not get that response. in fact i got no response from any other then Buddha.

After that i went to my shortcut and changed the target to "C:\Program Files\Half-Life 2\hl2_launch.exe" -console. I then re-entered the game and re-entered my codes twice. once when i had console active in advanced settings of keyboard and once when i did not. but it made no difference at all.

So does anyone know why the console commands are not working for me?

I believe first you need to type in "sv_cheats 1". That will enable cheats to be used.

Plus buddha doesn't have an obvious effect - it just makes it so that the minimum health you can reach is 1 (ie you can't die, but you can still take damage.)

I knew buddha's effects. After typing it i ran into enemies to see if i would die and i did. Works grand now though, with the code Acepilotf gave me
