Help please, There seems to be spelling mistakes in this game?

My friend is having an issue with his HL2. First, when he goes into HL2 it doesn't say HALF-LIFE 2, it says HALF-LIFE'. It says that for the loading screen and also when he clicks to open it through the my games list.

While in game, he is developing a Q as a crosshair. Not the regular diamond crosshair. The letter Q. That is what he is getting. I don't know how to fix it nor does he.

Also, you know how you click 1 to bring down the weapon menu. Well, my friend clicks 1 and instead of a picture of a crowbar it shows a lower case c, for the 9 mm it shows a lowercase d, for the Magnum its a capital E, for the SMG its the HL2 symbol, and last but not least for grenades its a lowercase k.

This is really weird. Please help.

I have this problem too. I'm guessing it's a problem with the font they use.

I've heard that if you installed a set of HL2 fonts on your system before today, some iconography may get messed up. I think you need to find the font package in your steam install directory and overwrite the font in your local font directory.

I had this problem and I'm so glad someone here on the boards managed to clear this up for me. The problem is you already have a halflife2 font installed, remove it from c:\windows\fonts and then replace it with a file called halflife2.ttf, located at C:\Program Files\Steam 1.0\SteamApps\\half-life 2\hl2\resource
