I need some help. I think my graphics card is fried, but i dont know. i took a pic. of my desktop. tell me if it is, and if so, what the **** should i do?

I'm absolutely not sure at all, but in that picture it looks like your icons aren't messed up at all. This probably won't work, but just try changing your desktop image. Sorry if it doesn't work. :(. Did you do anything that might cause a problem?

Here's the real question: when you first bootup, do you see that scrambled picture view at the BIOS? If not, chances are your card is fine.

I had a very similar problem when I installed Shogo: MAD, it completely screwed my XP up, I uninstalled it, killed the registry settings and reinstalled my graphics card drivers and all was well

Hmm it seems to me to be a software problem since u can actually take a screenshot (lo first I wrote screenshit!) or is it a picture taken by a digital camera?

What gfx is it? Did u overclock it? a easy try could be new drivers but that prolly wont help.. u can try though... If its easyer for you maybe u can loan a gfx from a friend or try to install yours in his.

Anyways if reinstalling your PC doesnt work u need a new gfx m8. Theres a remote possibility it might be your screen if thats a pic u took with a digital camera but I don tthink so. Thats all the ideas I can come up with.

Yeah this program should delete your registry settings quite exellent remember to read the few steps before using it... its Detonator RIP, oh yeaah itll only work if u have a nvidia card.

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro. it is not overclocked. everything was working fine, and then one day it started doing this.i did print screen (not a camera) and yes, i do see it when i first start up my computer. Thanks for all the help!

if you see it when you start up your computer then it's definitely something wrong with the card or your motherboard.

sometimes the 9700 pros have voltage problems (though since yours was working fine i suspect that it's not a voltage thing) you could try increasing the AGP voltage level in the BIOS, but i suspect that something else is very wrong.

first thing to try after adjusting the voltage up a bit is to try another video card or try your card in another computer. if your card doesn't work in another computer, of course it's the card. if another video card does the same thing in your computer, then it's most likely something wrong with the motherboard.

Just RMA the card or motherboard after you figure out which is bad.

Those look like artifacts, wich you get when the card is overheating, usually one sees them when overclocking because of the temperature increases. So it seems as though your card is overheating... but this is just a guess...

Sometimes, when i start up the computer, the things are not there, and as soon as i start up a game, those things start appearing. i can also move my icons and it leaves a green trail and stuff like that. when i move windows, inside of the windows, it gets covered up a bunch more. if i select text in those windows or something, it clears up a bit. thanks for the help

How about while it boots up, are there ever any problems there? Like when it does the ram check and the stuff like that?

He already said yes; however now he's saying they're not always there on bootup (I'd assume after his computer has been off). It definitely sounds like your card is overheating, try opening your case and blowing a fan into it or getting a PCI slot fan, or some extra case fans

When that stuff isnt on my screen, i have that stuff on the tops and bottoms of my icons. thanks!

EDIT : i just tried playing NFS:U, and i got all sorts of artifacts (or so i think) i put a pic. what does this mean!

As soon as this crap covered my screen, i put a fan down there, and it cleared it up within 25 seconds!

1. How many case fans do you have.
2. What's your case temp.
3. Run virus check.
4. Wipe your 3.9 catalyst drivers, re-download, re-install.
5. If that fails, wipe your hard drive.
6. Fresh install everything.
7. If you have another PC, try your 9700 in there (Rule out the mobo)
8. If you don't have another PC, bring it to a friends house.

I hope this helps man.

I still think its overheating... could you check if the fan is on on the graphics card when the computer is on?
