Hey guys. Ive had this problem for a while now but ive just kind of stuck with it. I can only go on small maps such as awp or fy maps because when i go on the other ones i have so much lag and its really unsmooth even though my ping is low. Im pretty sure this is down to my intergrate graphics. But the problem is i think i could make it work ok if i could change the video details and stuff to low setting but every time i try it freezes and counterstrike crashes. If anyone knows anything about this then please tell me. Thanx

A couple of system specs would help. But since you've said you have integrated graphics there are a few things you may be able to do;

You can change all graphics settings from CSS' console if you have it enabled.
If you don't, goto Options -> Keyboard -> Advanced -> Enable Developer Console

Then try typing some of these in the console (Just the bolded bits) to increase your FPS

cl_smooth 0
-- a little less beauty, but 5-10 more fps
fog_enable 0 -- removes the fog, better fps and visability
mat_bumpmap 0 -- removes bumpmapping, but yields a substantial fps gain
mat_clipz 0 -- water wuality taken off, more fps (-dxlevel 90 -clipz 0 in command line)
mat_mipmaptextures 1 -- makes textures lose their quality with distance, more fps
mat_specular 0 -- removes specular lighting but may yield fps gain
mp_decals 300 and less -- how much stuff will be kept in memory like bullet holes in walls, lesser = better performance
r_decal_cullsize 1 -- makes textures look good only when you get close, better fps
r_lod -1 -- worse texture quality, big fps boost
r_propsmaxdist 1000 and less -- less objects fading distance = better performance
r_rainradius 0 -- as i understand it, you won't see the rain
r_rainsimulate 0 -- disables rain, thus more fps
r_rainsplashpercentage 0 -- no splashes on the water from the rain

Intergrated GFX?

Holy shit. Burn your current motherboard and buy a new one.

I think he won't appreciate this comment, nor find it helpful.

What DirectX level are you running? Add -dxlevel 70 in the launch options to ensure it's the lowest one.

believe it or not, not everyone has money to throw around, especially when your 16 with no job currently and trying to work your way through GCSE's...

Dekstar i tried all of these but it didnt make any difference.

] mat_specular 0 this one didnt work, it came up with this message

Error: Material "debug/debuglightmap" uses unknown shader "LightmappedGeneric_dx8"

what specs do you want to know, sorry im not much of a computer wizz but i have belarc and i know a little about my comp

The hardware directx level is v6.0
the software directx level is v9.0

I don't know how to change these... do you know what i can do...

What are your PC specs?

Hardware level and software level are fixed. The command would just choose what gfx instructions to run.
DX7 is min for a lot of games. What game are you playing again? If you play HL games then is it running in DirectX, OpenGL or software mode?

Right click on 'My Computer' and go to properties. Does it say you have an AMD or Intel CPU? What is the speed or model? Also on that same screen it should say how much RAM you have.

i have 512mb of ram so im pretty sure its not that thats causing the problem.
I have an intel celeron CPU 2 GHz

Im pretty sure whats causing the problem is my intergrated graphics cant keep up with it. My problem is when i try to change the settings to low detail and stuff cs:s freezes and crashes and it comes up with this message:

" The instruction at "0x2223961" referenced memory at "0x0d75a1a0". The memory could not be "read" "

That's a memory leak, which could be video RAM yeah.

I'm not entirely sure how it's fixed (Never found one, and I get them sometimes), but try increasing your system cache (Control Panel > system > Advanced Tab > Performance > Advanced Tab > system Cache). Perhaps increasing that would help, as it writes information to your harddrive which is slower, but means it can hold more.

I used to have that board, the integrated graphics are worse than even the cheapest video card, everything runs at like 10 fps. The Radeon 9200 is like what? 50-70 dollars? I think you should save up for it and read up on managing your computer.

They forced it to 1 a few weeks ago. I can barely play aztec anymore D:

CS:S isn't all that demanding, hell my friend's Ti4200 plays the game flawlessly on every level. That card is what, ~6 years old?

D:

Yeah but this poor souls got a Celeron, i remember my old computer before my xps had a celeron, i was literally kicking and screaming when playing source :p

Yeah and I play CSS in a window, with desktop resolution: 1600x1200 and game rez at about 1300x720 or something. So large rezzes + high refresh rate on an old 9800 pro isn't good for anything Except the Dusts, but I can play them on high graphics (excluding HDR, AA, and AF)

Rain on Aztec = 10 FPS max.

If you want to change resolution try this - change the desktop resolution to what you want, start the game and change the resolution. Then change the desktop res back. Always works.

I've managed to run CS:S on a DirectX 6 machine with no probs. Are you sure the display drivers are up to date?
