I thought Valve upped the requirements a DX 7 card. Basically anycard that is an original Geforce or better is a DX 7 card. A DX 6 card is going to be a Nvidia TNT or TNT 2 card.

And I'm guessing the ATi Rage was the TNT of ATi. So you need a Geforce or a Radeon.
