Help - problem running HL2 MP co-op

When I try to connect to a friends server, it says:

Disconnect: Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket(server was
unable to contact the authentication server, 27).

When he tries to connect to me, it won't connect either. Anyone know what's up? And it's NOT a firewall issue, I hosted CS:S earlier today and he got in just fine.

make sure you spell maxplayers NOT maxplayer

Step 1
Navigate to the directory containing Steam.exe
Step 2
Then goto SteamApps/YourUserNameXXX/half-life 2/cfg
Step 3
Create a new text file and name it servermode.cfg
Step 4
In the file and the following
net_start
sv_lan 0
deathmatch 1
maxplayers (whatever you want)

Step 5
Save the file and load up Half-life 2
Step 6
Open the console and type exec servermode.cfg
Step 7
Now in the console type map <mapname of your choice>
Step 8
When it loads up open console up and type restart

Followed those exact instructions, no dice.

hey omolette, mind if i come in with u guys if u get it to work? im very pateint and i wont mess anything up, ive never done MP before and i really wannted to try it but i cannot find a dude to host a server, if not i understand
