Ok I need to somehow install windows xp on to a drive that is connected via USB (but not boot from that drive until its back in the other computer) I don't have a bootable CD to use so I figured I go to another computer and try and install windows onto the drive via usb to IDE plug. Problem is I have no clue how I coul possibly do that.

Do you have a floppy drive? Make bootable windows disks and it will then go to the CD for the install. Usually a program in a folder on the CD that will make them for you.

If the PC supports booting from USB then you can select that. Although I'm not sure how windows will take from being swtiched from one hardware configuration to the next.

Actually I have a win me bootable floppy disk. The problem is I don't have the windows me disc with me I have a copy of the xp disc a windows 98 disc and the 1 floppy disk. :flame: then again if I can just get a windows 98 boot disk I could probably just boot off of that and install windows 98 then upgrade it to xp no?

I was going to try and download/create a windows 98 boot disk on teh computer am using now.... only problem is the computer doesn't have a floppy drive.

edit: edit: I am an idot. lol I forgot I could just boot of the cd rom and that I had 2 copies of xp one was bootable via cd

Correct me if I'm wrong, guys... but I don't think windows xp can be installed successfully to a USB hard drive? I thought that it had issues booting from USB.

That solves the problem then. Bootable CDs ftw.
