I just got a Radeon 9500 Pro, I reformatted and put winxp pro on.

Now whenever I play a game for like 30 seconds, it either freezes or my computer shuts down!
It did this SOMETIMES with my geforce2
This sucks, I cant play any games, Help!

Specs:
WinXP Pro
Ati Radeon 9500 Pro
Soyo k7 mobo
AMD Duron 1.2 ghz
640 MBs of pc 2100 RAM

=(

just like everyone would say...do you have the latest drives?

video card drivers...bios drivers...windows patches....anything

update everythign you can

WinXP installs default drivers but they don't contain the same OpenGL/Directx references that the actual drivers do. So if you haven't installed the latest driver I'd do that. Good luck!

And be sure the PSU is good enough for it... And that the card is unobstructed (and preferably with case fan blowing on it), you dont want it to hot.

I looked around, and I found its something about the intel AGP controller or something, says i should put the new driver in BEFORE i put the card in, so what should I do? Put the drivers on then re-install the card?

Well I'm looking at the 9500 pro manual right now and it says to install AGP drivers for non-intel based motherboards before installation, but I don't think that's gonna help since you've got intel. But still, you should probably install new motherboard drivers before you put in the card. Also, it says to uninstall your previous graphics card drivers.
EDIT: Oh and install new graphics drivers of course. :cheese:

Oh crap, i bet thats it. You had an nvidia card before this, now an ATi. There might be traces of the det. drivers left. Head to www.guru3d.com and find a detonator destroyer.

My thing is non-intel then, because I read intel so I said it, i didnt know if it was intel or non-intel.
I reformatted before I put my 9500 pro in.

Maybe you should just RMA the card, and see if the new one works ok. Or get a new HSF for it, and clean off that old thermal crap and put some nice compund on it.

Well in the manual it says to definentaly download drivers for your motherboard if its non-intel or the 9500 won't work properly with your mobo.

I downloaded all the drivers for my motherboard, my birthday is in 4 days, so im going to get a shiny new ASUS motherboard.
